  • The U19s have beaten Zimbabwe by 146. Taz Ali, who I have mentioned in the last week or so as another of our up and coming spinners, returned the remarkable figure of 7.5-1-29-7. That makes him our leading wicket taker in the World Cup with 14 wickets and some 9 wickets more than our second most successful bowler.
  • Just discovered that Tom Hartley has an athletic background.

His father is Bill Hartley former GB 400 metre hurdler and his mother, Donna, was a GB 400 metre runner and she later became a bodybuilder.

Bit of Saturday afternoon trivia for you...

His sister was a competitive swimmer too. He doesn't mind a bit of karaoke either!

I suspect he won't do that again, ever, in his entire career.  But it's painful to listen to two experienced commentators being absolutely baffled by what's going on, and then exacerbating the situation by quoting, at length, the wrong law.

Law 37.4 succinctly covers what happened.  Correct decision by the umpires; embarrassing mistake by - but big learning opportunity for - the batter.

I am not sure  that Donna Hartley was his Mum ?
  • Sharma gets a jaffa from Jimmy in the second over of the day.

    29-1

    Sharma 13 (21) b Anderson
  • Anderson on fire this morning.

Jaiswal plays a drive and nicks off to slip.

    30-2

    Jaiswal 17 (27) c Root b Anderson
  • Gill survives on a DRS review… what an odd situation. He wasn’t convinced until talking to his partner but UltraEdge shows a tiny inside edge.

This time England review an lbw decision on Gill. He survives on umpire’s call on height. Half a cm lower and he was gone. Anderson couldn’t believe it.

100 up for India. Our spinners struggling to get anything out of the wicket.

    102-2, lead by 245 now

    Gill 43 (55)
    Shreyas 29 (50)

  • 50 for Gill with back to back boundaries off Rehan Ahmed.
  • What a catch Stokes - running towards the boundary and he snags it! Nelson strikes.

    111-3

    Shreyas 29 (52) c Stokes b Hartley
  • Don’t know how much he knew about it but a quality reaction catch from Foakes as Patidar gets an inside edge off Rehan Ahmed.

    122-4

    Patidar 9 (19) c Foakes b Ahmed
  • 130-4 at lunch.

    Gill 60 (78)
    Axar 2 (13)
  • We've played Gill nicely into form. He reaches his 100 off 131 balls

    201-4 and a lead of 344

  • Just declare and get it done today India

Whether by design or accident as a result of the field set by Stokes, Gill, who isn't the best at reverse sweeping, manages to glove a ball to Foakes to give Bashir his first wicket of the innings for 104 (147). Foakes actually only caught the ball as an afterthought, having appealed for the LBW before doing so.

    211-5 for a lead of 354

  • Callum play-by-play commentary > BBC or Cricinfo
  • Somewhat even more of a concern, is the fact that Root is off the pitch having hurt a finger attempting a catch in the morning session. How serious it is remains to be seen.
  • Hartley traps Axar LBW post review

    220-6 and a lead of 363

  • How did that not get given on the field? 😂
  • How did that not get given on the field? 😂
Can only think that he thought that it pitched outside leg because it certainly wasn't missing the stumps!
  • 227-6 at tea for a lead of 370

It looked plumb but did the umpire think there was an inside edge ?
  • Another soft dismissal as Bharat pulls one from Rehan straight to Stokes

    228-7 and a lead of 371

I know you have your Jack Dee persona to keep up but can you seriously not see what great experience this is for our 3 young Spinners with Leech and Root missing ?
  • Kuldeep has a rush of blood to the head and hits one straight up in the air from Hartley to Duckett for a duck

    229-8 for a lead of 372

Bumrah dropped at slip by Crawley off Hartley. As it's Bumrah one would like to think that this won't be fatal for us!

Edit - it was Ashwin and not Bumrah
  • We always just about cling on in these games. Chasing about 400 it’s borderline impossible but can never count this lot out

I think borderline impossible is Stokes' chase of choice
