I won't add to his punishment
I pictured something like that scene in Borat where he meets Pamela Anderson
    Actual LOL
  • Law of balance dictates that I have to counter your agenda with my own counter-agenda. Will concede this really wasn't his best game but he still did the tackling and simple distribution bit well. His forward passing, while not great, was stymied by his options. The worst aspect of his play continues to be his shooting tbh
  • He is not fit to lick Dobbo's boots.

It was noticeable today how much more positive TT is on the ball, particularly when it was just Coventry on the pitch. I like Coventry but he does need to improve that part of his game
Agree, it really defies the idea that it's Coventry's 'lack of options' that means he doesn't pass forwards. When Taylor collects the ball, he turns towards the opposition goal and finds a ball. When I watch Coventry, he receives it and his natural instinct is to turn backwards and play it safe.

He does the simple things to a decent standard, but he doesn't offer enough.
There were a couple of times where TT gave the ball to CC because it was the “positive” option as there was space/runners that TT couldn’t access but CC could but the ball just went to the CB’s. It was so infuriating.

Conor Coventry has been called up into the Ireland squad to face England to replace Jason Knight who has been ruled out of the game. Will train with the group this morning before travelling to London with the Ireland squad.

Been called up to the Ireland squad ahead of tomorrow’s game against England at Wembley. Would be a pretty big debut if he gets on for 5/10 mins
I’m going tomorrow, would be excellent to see, saw Deano make his international debut in Dublin many years ago.

Connor Coventry is an incredibly average league 1 football player.
    In your opinion.
Obviously managers and coaches who may have slightly more knowledge and experience than your own think differently.

  • Why doesn't he pass it forward to *checks notes* Alan Campbell
  • Good luck to him. Hope he gets on.

*Cue Coventry coming on in 89th minute and scoring a worldy to equalise and knock England off the top of the table*

    😂
I think there's more chance of me coming off the England bench and scoring

As Leuth says, he isn’t the problem, it’s the rest of the midfield and the way the team is set up. He certainly could be less cautious with his passing, but he breaks up play well and rarely loses the ball. Most midfielders would struggle in this team.
He's not the problem, but he's not the solution either. Breaking up play and possession in midfield are very useful qualities but only if we are then able to actually do anything with the ball, which we are not.

Which is not all Coventry's fault at all but coming from a PL academy and with the hype he got I can't blame anyone who wanted/expected a little bit more from him.

He's probably been our 2nd best midfielder this season but that's not saying much. He's not to blame for how poor our midfield is, but he is accountable for his own performances.

Remember this with Hector & Thomas last season: "You'll all be shocked how good our CBs look with a more combative midfield in front of them!"

It wasn't other people making them crap, they just weren't good enough. And I'm not saying Coventry is the same, the point is that players are accountable for their own performances and don't need excuses.

He’s the best midfielder of a very very poor crop .

To a certain extent yes that's true but I would argue that this also holds him accountable for other's performances which is unfair.

His job is pretty clearly to win and recycle the ball and make the simple short passes to the likes of Campbell and Docherty who are supposed to be the more dynamic part. That they are so far terrible at doing so is a big problem but not one that Coventry can really compensate for.

If he starts going forwards more or trying to carry the ball then that leaves holes in the midfield and leaves us open to counter attacks. Taylor has been more dynamic but results haven't actually been considerably better so it's clearly a bigger problem.
  • I don't think he offers much at all, in the games I've seen him since we signed him I couldn't really pick one moment out. Much like the rest of the squad just bang average and boring to watch.

I was never Dobson's biggest fan but Coventry has been a downgrade
