Such an improvement from last season works so much better when playing with a partner who can play with the ball and leaving him to the defensive side of the game. Obviously still lacks the quality of passing going forward but if he had that he probably wouldn’t be a Charlton player. 

Will definitely earn that new contract if he keeps this up

In three seasons of football, have you seen him play a pass like Skipp did to put TC through against QPR? I can't recall any. 

He does look to be passing better and more positively. His has improved a lot on the last few seasons. I would agree with @Crispywood though. There are levels.

He’s played passes between the lines like that before. Though usually it’s out to a wide player.

I actually think he’s got a decent passing range, his issue here, is he does not have the ability to control the ball and drive into space and open up a passing option like that (which Skipp does).

I actually think he’s got a decent passing range, his issue here, is he does not have the ability to control the ball and drive into space and open up a passing option like that (which Skipp does).

His range has got a lot better. To play a pass like Skipp's, you also need good vision. Agree on the driving forward part, too. He probably doesn't turn and go forwards like Skipp does in that move and that's definitely part of the issue.

Last year he suffered because although Coady was great for us, he was a very defensive midfielder which meant we leant too much in Coventry being more of an 8, didn’t suit his game at all. He’s brilliant as a deeper midfielder just needs someone alongside him who’s more of a ball player.

There was one moment yesterday on the counter in the 2nd half, TC was on the halfway line unmarked opposition CB’s also on the halfway line. Coventry had the ball 15-20 yards away, all he had to do was play the ball inside the defender for TC to run on to and he’s 1 on 1 Coventry ended up hitting the defender. 

Now I really don’t want to be harsh because he was brilliant yesterday but he does not have the ability to open up defences or play through balls, he is looking to play forward now which is definitely an improvement but he is still very safe on the ball he always goes into feet. 

But I’m delighted to see how much he’s come on from last season because in pre season wouldn’t have minded if he went now I’m happy to see him in the starting XI

That’s the difference between a Coventry and a JRC/Skipp end of the day. He may not have the quality with his passing range but at least he’s trying to be more progressive and has had a very encouraging start to the season

That’s the difference between a Coventry and a JRC/Skipp end of the day. He may not have the quality with his passing range but at least he’s trying to be more progressive and has had a very encouraging start to the season 

JRC might have pulled that extremely tricky pass off, might not have. The significant difference between him and Coventry is that JRC cannot cover even close to the same ground. JRC's greater ability to move with the ball is his own advantage, but that's much less important in a Championship midfielder than raw ground coverage, ball-winning and a controlled mentality

I’m hoping he gets a new contract soon as he has been a good servant to the club. He’s also got better this year especially. 

Probably reading too much into it but from the video the club put out about the team picture, he’s sat on the front row right next to Fleming. On the other side of the coaching staff is LJ, so maybe he’s vice captain?
