It would make more sense if it was Brum or WBA or a different midland team as that's close to home for him etc.

Preston isn't a great place to live, let's be honest, and whilst it's more money, will they have more ambition than us? Doubtful
I doubt anyone playing for Preston lives in Preston. I would expect they live nearer to Manchester. Footballers don’t live in the towns they play for.
Got visions of all Gillingham's Footballers living in caravans now!!
Would be an upgrade on that away end.

The longer it goes on the less likely he signs IMO.

It’s not been long considering he went on holiday after the playoff final.

True but his agent won't be on holiday now with the window open.

If Small re-signs, he'll have to be here to do the social media video and photos though  ;)

I’m not sure a player being on holiday, unless they’ve gone to the middle of the Amazon, means they are completely cut off from communication - it’s not 1982!

Unfortunately I think if this was going to happen it would of by now. Sad to see the bloke go personally

A manipulated photo of Scarfy and backdrop of Sparrows lane will be on the agenda soon. (If not already)
Sign the phone screen for your contract which you can read over the 89 pages and enjoy your holiday but don't be overweight on your return.

Different situations but after the 2019 Play-Off final,
Jonny Williams didn’t resign with us until late July.

Adam Matthews springs to mind as well

I don't think NJ will be too concerned if he leaves. Yes, he's dynamic, quick, and we all love a stepover, but the stats show his end product is pretty naff...

Not sounding too good is it, with Preston and others sticking their noses into the trough and trying to get Small to sign, I know he is on holiday, but can't believe this hasn't been sorted before he went off...
Our only hope is that Nathan knows what is going on and is planning accordingly, but we desperately need an answer one way or the other,... we have plans and negotiations to make regarding in's and out's for next year, and Small owes us at least the respect of a swift decision.

Not sure if I’m looking too much into this Preston are in the process of signing 2 wingbacks in Drameh and Valentin and they have Brady and Hughes who can play at LWB as well potentially recruiting for the Scenario Small may not go to them

I think Jones knows that Small isn’t signing. If he was then he’d have done it before going on holiday. We need to plan for a replacement and the club still not knowing at this point would I think be unhelpful and unacceptable.

I imagine the club know whats going on, just because we dont know doesnt mean nobody does. We may even be trying to sign a replacement before informing other clubs we are short.

Smalls most obvious replacement would be Fevrier at Stockport who is just as good if not better.

Our problem is that he is being used in a position that isn't his natural position. So I should imagine there's also the question from his advisors along the lines of should you get a Right back in am I your 1st choice left back?

If Thierry Small doesn't sign that's on him, he won't be paying paid peanuts, so if he wants to be greedy let him. We need to be sensible.

No player is bigger than the club, we will find someone.

Would that command a fee ?

OR they might know and are waiting to make a big splash when he comes back. There wasn't time between Wembley and the players jetting off, and IF he's re-signing, why rush out the news anyway. IF there's good news, it's good to spread it out, and if there's bad news, they might want to announce an arrival on the same day.

There are plenty of players around the country in the same situation, where a club has made them an offer and they haven't accepted or declined yet, it's only the 3rd June.

This is the nagging thing at the back of my mind. I really haven’t got a read on how much Jones wants / rates Small. If I had to lean one way, I’d guess probably not as much as the fans

Agree with most of what you have put but not sure it is fair to call him greedy. If another club is offering him 11k and we are offering roughly half of that, then we are as much making the decision for him as the other club.

Clearly a passionate player who wants to improve. There is little doubt in my mind we wouldn't have got promoted without him. Hope he does sign but I'm resigned to the fact he probably won't.

Agreed he is not greedy, just an ambitious talent. The club should do more to try and keep him.

Agree. He’s got lots of potential but 2 goals and 3 assists should be replaceable. In an ideal world Small stays and we bring in a player on each side ahead of him and Campbell.

I intuited that NJ pulled strings to get Small in before he was made manager, due to the Saints connection. A few others posted similar at the time.

With Small, we know he, or maybe his agent, has been happy to move clubs when they felt it was the right thing to do.

He owes no particular loyalty to us as we gave him, in effect, an 18 month contract which he has honoured.  We could have offered more than 6 months plus a year option but we didn't.  In hindsight that was a mistake. However, at the time giving a player who had flopped on loan at Port Vale 3 years, for example, would have been a big risk.

He has always, as far as I could see, played to his best ability.

He took the risk to let his contract run down, as is his right, and is now is a very strong position to negotiate his next deal with us or another club.

We, the club, have let other players' contract run down and not offered them anything.  That is the harsh reality of professional football for Watson, Aneke, Henry, etc.

It is up to Small and his agent to decide how much he wants in wages and how long the contract should be and it is up to the club to decide how much of both to offer him.  Hopefully there is some over lap and his signs for us.

If he can get what he feels is a better deal at another club he has every right to go for that deal.  That's not being greedy, that is being practical.  He is a professional footballer after all.

We saw with the Jones to Cardiff fiasco that it's wrong to jump too quickly to conclusions about whether deals are or aren't going to get done.

He hasn't signed with another club, as far as we know, so he can still sign for us.

So until it's on the OS, ours or someone else's, it's not done and we'll all just have to wait and see what happens.
