Didn’t realise I was that much of a trainspotter, but we did this many years ago as part of a car-club tour of the region.
We had a special round trip with coffee and cakes (a very, very German thing) in the Kaiserwagen, a reproduction of the 1900 wagons specially commissioned for Kaiser Wilhelm II’s visit and trip on the Schwebebahn!
Brilliant, I was on holiday in Spain almost 40 years ago & got talking to this elderly German guy in the bar of the hotel I was staying in who started telling me about the flying train, I think he had some connection (no pun intended ). I must have shown some interest because he said stay here, & toddled off, came back a few minutes later with a brochure all about the flying train. Can't remember if it was in English but he was so proud of this train he brought a pile of these brochures to give to people he met. I must see if I can find it.
Our hotel for the first two England group games is opposite the monorail in the centre of Wuppertal. Wonder if we'll be able to tear ourselves away from the hotel window and make it to the matches...
