Cover to cover: Rocket Man

Here are two versions of the same song, Rocket Man.  Written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin and performed here by the former, in a rather bland, emotionless style here...

But here we have a superb performance by Canadian singer - and some time television actor - William Shatner.  Suffused with emotion, passion and dramatic reverence, the Shat-man gives us a tour de force, managing not just one role, but three:

There's really no contest is there..?

(Happy 93rd birthday, William Shatner)

  • Chizz, all due respect but you don’t know what you’re talking about. Elton’s version is not bland or emotionless, and Shat’s has shat on it.

    How very very American.🥹
  • Trying too hard
  • Different genres surely. Both good in their own right but Elton is a singer and William Shatner is an actor. Not that I’m a big Elton fan but I prefer his version. No contest really.
  • Shatner is the guvnor. His version of Common People is brilliant. As for his Christmas album Shatner Claus. Wow.
