You would have thought they would switch to the other side for the warm ups.

I thought it looked a bit threadbare in front of the East stand.  I mean, for a million quid you'd want better, I assume they have some kind of guarantee?

How does one guarantee grass will grow when it's been as frosty and wet as it has been this winter?
The Desso pitch - now rebranded as Grassmaster make this claim.

Interesting that part of the claim is that it makes the pitch "firmer" That kind of fits in with me being told it was rock hard as was Liverpool's. And I see Anfield has the same stuff.

In terms of actual growth, the grass will require consistent soil temperature above 5-6C. And then we also use grow lights but not sure that these would do anything worthwhile unless the soil temp is high enough. Is that where undersoil heating really helps out rather than just preventing matches from being called off?

Yep, that’s the missing element at the Valley, just a few grow lights in areas of higher wear. Temperatures are up from this week, so maybe it’ll come back in those areas, but the rest of the pitch looks good
  • Fair few championship teams pitches are looking a bit rough, Birminghams is looking very patchy

Preston's pitch also really bad by modern standards. The constant rain is probably the culprit

I think the point is that to date the pitch hasn’t been a marked improvement.

At best it can be argued that it’s allowed the extra women’s matches to be accommodated - so it’s a net nil thus far.

Doubt it seeing that they paid for it effectively.

Women have to legally play there for 10 years or we return the grant

It’s hardly stopped raining for two months, pitches all over the place are getting hammered, it’ll be far worse without the fibre in the pitch and the underlying foundations

apart from the week over Christmas, it's rained more than average in the UK and double the average rainfall in the SE in January

Lots of slips tonight. Ramsey's comes to mind that could have cost us.
Hope they do some work during the summer .

Given the persistent drizzle tonight and loads of rain all winter, it's holding up fine

Ramsay stumbled. Wasn't a slip. He tried to lean into his man and lost his footing.
