  • We just need to remember that when we playing Birmingham that no one is allowed to tackle poor little Marc Leonard or he’ll cry again and get the manager to make a complaint
Hope Mitchell or Docherty steams into him first touch

Barnsley have signed Georgie Gent from Blackburn. He was on loan at Motherwell in the Scottish top flight last season.
  • Bolton have signed wing back Szabolcs Schön from Hungarian team Fehervar, some people on the forum might have heard of them before. He has 8 caps for the Hungarian national team.

One work permit done, Dixon next?

Stockport re-sign Louie Barry on loan from Aston Villa.

As things stand I think Stockport are a far bigger threat next season, than Wrexham.
Agreed, I think Barry will be a useful player in L1 this season.

Barry's career, for someone who was meant to be the big thing, had been pretty uninspiring. He's 21 now, so you'd expect him to be breaking through at a higher level by now
  • Wrexham have signed Defender Dan Scarr from Plymouth for an undisclosed fee. He played 31 times for them last season.

Peterborough have signed Full back Sam Curtis on loan from Sheffield United. He made 1 appearance for them last year, and is a Republic of Ireland under 21 international.

More of a Championship regular and player than Gillesphy then

That’s a great signing he’s way to good for this league in my opinion.
  • We’ve definitely stalled on signings. Yes probably because of getting rid of the dead wood but as it stands, imho, we’re undercooked

    1 season above l1 and finished 20th.

i would say solid l1 rather than an established championship player

Given the talk of us having a huge transfer window with more churn than usual etc and some of the fan hype about what we would do, then bringing in 7 players, which is less than half the division have done; whilst also losing the divisions top scorer and the club captain, doesn't feel great business to date.

I would say a decent window would be if half your signings have a very good impact.  So if 4 of the 7 do really well for us that would be par, if 5 do very well that would be outperformance.

We really need more than that imo.

Other teams have moved ahead of us this window and are adding real quality to their ranks.  We need a strong week or two but frustratingly I think we need first teamers (3-4) and it is now so close to the season they will have missed out on bonding, practicing together and building a unit etc even if it does happen.

Other teams will also have identified their weakest links and improved them, weirdly we have replaced our strongest ones.  It doesn't seem particularly well thought through to me.
  • Today's deals so far:

Mansfield have signed forward Ben Quinn on a free from Celtic. He has scored 3 in 3 during pre season whilst being on trial.

Bristol Rovers have signed Midfielder Jake Garrett on loan from Blackburn. He played 28 times for Blackburn last season.

Murphy Cooper has joined Stevenage on loan from QPR. Cooper is a goalkeeper and made 23 appearances in the league on loan at Swindon last season.

  • Busier couple of days than we'd seen over the past few days. Undisclosed are now level with free transfers, but quite a few loans coming in now as well. Over half the teams in the league now has at least 1 loan player signed.

With Barnsley, Bolton and Mansfield all making signings everyone except Reading and Huddersfield now has 5+ new signings through the door.

Bristol Rovers meanwhile made signing number 12, that means there are now 4 sides that can't name every new signing in a starting line-up. Still only Burton that can't name everyone in a squad.
  • Plus 7 players but paying for 4 of them, and then Docherty and Berry both probably being on a decent wedge having come from higher up the pyramid, the spend on them is almost certainly higher than, for instance, Rotherham who have signed twice as many players but only paid one fee

Other teams might not necessarily be signing the right players to form a winning team….

Birmingham have signed attacking midfielder Luke Harris on loan from Fulham. Harris made 20 appearances and scored 4 goals on loan for Exeter last season.

Supposedly very highly rated , think they got him after doing a good job with Jay Stansfield last season.

Five days before season starts and Michael Hector is still without a club.

Lots of Pro footballers without a club has done a pre season together at a PFA venue including Hector.
This is where their agents earn their money.

did OK for  us but our current central defenders are an upgrade
  • I am really pleased that so far we have not brought in any loans .. our in-comers are OURS and have a stake in CAFC's future and as a place to make a good career for themselves
  • This works if you sign decent players, time will tell...
  • There's been a hell of a lot of movement this close season, just not for our bunch of duds...
  • Elkan Baggott has joined Blackpool on loan from Ipswich. He made 14 appearances for Bristol Rovers last season.
  • Stevenage have signed Defender Charlie Goode on a free transfer after his release from Brentford. He made 13 appearances last season on loan at Wigan.
