  • And there is also the exceptionally scenic railway from Bled to Nova Gorica!
Page one and the train chat has started - proper Charlton 🚂
We got a cool train there, while I remember!!

It was one you could drive cars onto the trailer, a bit like Eurotunnel with no roof, then you can stand around out of the car watching the world go past, go under the mountains etc.

Unusual train and a brick viaduct. This should have an NSFW warning.

Also, overtaking could be an issue.

I can't imagine our Health and Safety rules allowing people to stand outside like that! I imagine it got quite breezy  :)
    Definitely wouldn't be allowed!

Wasn't too bad actually, it wasn't that fast, which was decent given you could enjoy the scenery more.
  • Whats the likelihood of fans being able to go out and watch a game? If they have one of course!

There certainly will be at least one game, it's just a question of venue.
  • Has a very small coast line I believe.
    Very mountainous and extraordinarily beautiful.
Had a hankering to visit a few years back but very much regret not having done so.

Treat yourself to a few days away.
  • Only 3 hours by coach to Venice as well.

What time does it leave Bexleyheath?
    In about two months time.

  • I know NJ has his quirks, but he has to realise that some will want to go and watch if they play a game.

Pre-season training camp should be arranged exclusively for what's in the best interest of the manager, coaches and playing personnel.  It shouldn't be organised in order to accommodate fans.

If fans can go and see a match during the camp, then great.  But that's the least important part of the trip.
I’m not suggesting they organise a training camp based around fans.
I have been to a couple of overseas training games and sat on the sidelines to watch.

As I said, some will want to go and watch if they play a game.

    You having a laugh?
    The fans are the club
If I was a manager I’d insist on non-fan training camps. Last thing I’d want is the distraction of pissed up blokes, obsessives being a pain and any potential thing being caught on camera. You’re there to do a specific job of preparation for the season ahead and to forge a team togetherness. Fans are just a distraction I reckon and bring a caution to the whole thing. Just my view.
Roda, Lyngby and Valencia had between 60 and 250 at these games, I was there, and zero problems.

For supporters that go away regularly, pre-season is an opportunity to go to new places and grounds

  • For me, these games abroad are training matches rather than pre season friendlies.

I dont think all fans are the same. From my view, it would be good to see what they have been working on in a game against a local team, see them try new things etc.

Last one was in Malaga also which is pretty famous for pissed up people who can make a week of it! Dont think Slovenia would have that appeal for people wanting to get on the beers!

plus....only chance ill get to see Charlton in Europe! haha!
  • Isn’t the reality these events have just become an opportunity primarily to lure our wealthier sponsors along and keep them involved? Some other fans have also been able to be associated with it but as others have said it’s a training event not a pre season friendly.

I can’t see any grounds to object if it’s a non public thing.

Most energy and commitment I've seen Kirk put in on a football pitch during it though.

So our most loyal fans are a pain?
I should think 90% of the fans who go on these tours go near enough week in week out.
If there was 200 fans out there we'd probably know half of them.

Ain’t what you want to hear but yes, NJ (and most competent managers) will see it that way on this point specifically.

We can have another player/fan jolly in Spain and finish 16th if you’d like…

  • Is it reach the premiership at any cost then?
Who said anything about the fans being consulted about where the friendlies are played?
Just be nice if the fans could watch a game.
