Anyone use Liverpool Street Elizabeth line ?

Going to Wembley next week and will be travelling in from Romford on Lizzy Line

TFL journey planner is saying get Lizzy Line to Farringdon, then walk to Barbican and get Met line from there, even though Farringdon is on the Met Line
Is the interchange really that bad at Farringdon you should go to another station completely or would it be easier to get off at Liverpool street and join Met Line there (or Moorgate as believe that is linked)

  • Unless there are station closures, I’d get off at the west end of Liverpool St platform and walk up to Moorgate.
  • The interchange at Farringdon is straightforward, ignore the TFL planner.
If you board towards the front of the train, alight at Farringdon,  go up the escalator & through the ticket barrier & cross the road & enter the tube station, go down stairs slightly to the right & you are on the west/northbound Circle Met & H&C platform.
It will take you about 2 minutes & is clearly signposted.
  • thanks both.
  • There is a direct connection between the westbound platform at Barbican and the Elizabeth Line station at Farringdon, at the back end of the westbound Liz platform.

That's what is being suggested I assume, rather than expecting you to walk onto the road, maybe because it's quieter than the main connection to the Metropolitan Farringdon station.

Clive's advice is good but just to confuse matters a little more, farringdon and barbican are basically co-located now on the Liz line, as is Liverpool street and Moorgate and can be best experienced by getting on the right end of the Liz line train and coming up at the appropriate exit. In fact for a giggle you could get off the Liz line at Moorgate (denoted as Liverpool street on the tube map) and walk through to barbican to get on again (at the Long Lane entrance called farringdon which is just behind barbican tube), walk along the liz line platform and exit to street level to join the Met line as Clive advises.
  • Does the Elizabeth line stop at all Heathrow terminals?

    Yes.

6 an hour go to Heathrow Terminal 2&3 station. 2 an hour continue to Terminal 5, 4 an hour continue to Terminal 4

It serves 2/3 which is one station, Terminal 4 & terminal 5.
Terminal 1 is no longer used apparently.
  • Farringdon station is bloody huge these days. The new Lizzy line platform stretches right next to Barbican..
Suppose it depends where you come out of it at Farringdon. If it's the Long Lane end Barbican might be you best bet but there's little in it.

  • As others have said, Liverpool Street, head to Moorgate and get the Bakerloo line to Wembley.
  • As an infrequent traveller on Elizabeth Line i'm still discovering where best to change trains & which part of the train is best for quick exit/interchange etc.
For example travelling to Abbey Wood it is best to board the front of the train which is closest to the exit & handy for buses going towards Thamesmead or Bexleyheath, whereas travelling to Woolwich it's best boarding the rear of the train as it's closest to the escalators to exit from the station.
Some of the Lizzie line stations are very large & in Central London the interchanges can be complicated & finding the best exit can take a few attempts, but i will say  that the signposting is very good & probably better than any app.
  • Worth noting that sometimes the signage will send you along a longer route than necessary, when all the new passageways are massive with plenty of room for people to walk in both directions.
  • I think they'd do everyone a flavour to rename Liverpool Street as 'Liverpool Street/ Moorgate'; and Farringdon as 'Farringdon/ Barbican', or at least highlight that these other stations are practically touching each other in a friendly way.

Yep, that's the best way. Get on the back of the train and when it stops at "Farringdon" the platforms are so long the exit at the back end actually comes up at Barbican, so you can get the Met line from there.

However, if you're on the front of the train then Clive's way of picking up the Met line at Farringdon works too.

In reality there's not going to be a lot in it, so no problem either way.
  • I’m going to Wembley next Friday from liv st

Are the routes really that much quicker than just jumping on the met line at liv st?
  • Thanks everyone
  • Elizabeth line is pukka btw.  I work at Liverpool Street and sometimes I get the train in the opposite direction from London to go to Abbey Wood where the line begins and it’ll get to Liverpool Street quicker than heading towards London on national rail.

    Proper charlton thread this!

You can also travel free to Terminal 4 or 5 on Heathrow Express trains from Terminal 2/3.

  • Great set of loos at Farringdon too on the southbound Thameslink platform accessible when coming up or going down to the Liz line, or changing to/from the Thameslink.

They're on the northbound platform. Crossrail installed them.

The Bakerloo line doesn't run from Moorgate and Wembley Central is a longer walk than Wembley Park.

There are signs and exit guides along the platforms which show which way to go.

@s@Southendaddick in your case just jump on Met line at Liv St.

I am on Elizabeth line from Romford hence my question but if was starting at Liverpool St would do as you suggest.
  • Have to meet Mrs P from Heathrow Terminal 3 on Tuesday week around 2.15 pm, travelling from Lee (or Hither Green).
All my previous Heathrow excursions have involved the District then the interminable Piccadilly line, from Embankment after going to Charing Cross.
Mrs P says the thing to do is London Bridge, Thameslink to Farringdon, then the Elizabeth line to the airport.
    Is she right?
  • Seth, I  travelled on Liz line to Heathrow last Wednesday and it was really easy, so I  think Mrs P is probably correct.

Yes. Unless you can pick up the Elizabeth Line from Abbey Wood or Woolwich, and go all the way from there.

A bit more expensive than the tube, but far nicer and quicker.
