  • Question:
The matchwornshirt.com website quotes £1061 "raised
    Raised? For what/whom?
It's promoted on the OS but that don't say what any money is being raised for.
This is just a commercial thing innit?
What have they left out or what have I missed?

I can get an out of date polyester tshirt from the clubshop for about £25 and if I want some indecipherable smudges on it I can find a felt tip pen, or am I missing something else?

Raised from the the current bids, that's assuming people pay.

The money is being raised for the club, it's a commercial relationship. It all comes nicely packaged in a presentation box.

I think the why now is because club are trying to fill the summer with some content. They could have planned it better and sold off left over kit, boots, GK gloves etc.

I don't know who the head of coms are, but we should have had stuff lined up for the summer before the season ended. We have two months to fill with engaging content, that isn't hard to do.
  • Having looked at all the available items, I wonder why anybody would want to pay over £100 for players’ autographs which these days are nothing more than an undecipherable squiggle.

I started collecting autographs in 1974 (a couple of seasons after I started supporting the team), but no longer bother since players stopped signing their name, preferring instead to scribble something akin to a doodle

The club shop used to do limited runs of signed shirts, but normally it would be just before Christmas.

Players have been squiggling their names since autographs existed, it's certainly not a new thing.
  • I collected autographs as a kid, George Best and Kevin Keegan I got personally and they were perfectly legible.

Maybe they are selling of remaining items quickly before the partnership 'The Club' begins.

This was already a f*cking liberty, but if you are charging £30 for an autograph, at least get them to make an effort.

I genuinely hope they get zero uptake across the board, or at least not enough revenue to cover their costs and this sordid little side line dies a quick death.

Why are you bothered, even if I was?

    He isn’t always. It’s a sporadic thing 🙄
    Yes...sometimes he's Furious seething ;)

    amended!
  • Actually, I'm seething, which seems a fair compromise.

The Club have recently partnered with Charlton Athletic to offer signed memorabilia from the likes of Nathan Jones, Tyreece Campbell and Luke Berry.

After the weekend’s action there is one player whose signature supporters will be rushing to get their hands on.

I hope the club can cope with the rush.

Yeah, only to sign it using Mitchell's shirt number!

  • I collected autographs as a kid, George Best and Kevin Keegan I got personally and they were perfectly legible.

I still have Eddie Firmani's, perfectly legible. I can't see the point of autographs unless you have actually obtained it from the signatory in person.
  • still don't get the attraction of a stinking soiled £15max (when new) polyester t-shirt with an indecipherable squiggle on it somewhere
    £90 to £100?  WTAF?
none of these are ever going to be worth anything as collectors items, if they're knocking them out after many/most games in a season there won't even be any rarity 'value'
I know people lose their shit over football "memorabilia" but this is nothing more than an idiot tax, isn't it?
I can't see demand being sustained.  It might have made the club a couple of hundred quid this week (split between club and the sales agent?)
I get that a Killian Mbappe signed shirt might attract interest, cos he's the best there is in his generation, has won all sorts of trophies etc
But if there's a future world beater in this Charlton squad I'll eat my hat coat and shoes
Didn't Charlton previously arrange to sell some of this sort of thing to benefit Demelza and similar?  Paying way over any sense for some Charlton tat when the proceeds are going to a worthy cause would be fine.

  • We (Museum) have loads of stuff like this on offer and it's not a massive seller.

Not sure why the club hooked up with these guys when we can offer the same service? (We have put this to them btw)
  • I've recently started looking at Topps cards which are signed and limited, unless a player is absolute mustard there isn't much value at all. You can get signed Beckham card for £100.
