I like BG (have smart meter).Get 1/2 price electric on Sundays 11-4pm
Same discount on ad hoc days/times when solar/wind power is “over producing”.Can reduce your DD every month based on your usage/projection (the opposite is compulsory). They notify you if they have a cheaper tariff.2 adults here - pay £134/month for both fuels in a 3 bed detached newish build.1 -
Bedsaddick said:My bills have gone up since I went to Octopus six months ago . They are all as bad as each other . I pay £241 a month for gas & Electricity for a three bed semi . I paid just over £200 when I was with Shell .
Switched to the Tracker tariff & it's saving us a minimum of £30 a month, in April it was about £60. Always a risk the tracker price could go above budget cap but I think that's happened 4 days in the last two years.1 -
Bedsaddick said:Out of curiosity can people post what they pay per month and what size property they live in. It will be interesting to compare.leftbehind said:Im EDF pay £120 a month for a 3 bed and close to £300 in credit
Will shop around cum October for a deal where I am not 'forced' to get a (so called) 'smart' meter
EDIT .. forgot to say that some companies base charges on how far you are from their generating station(s), not big variations, BUT it all adds up1 -

Has the tracker been worthwhile over the last few months ? Are you going to stick with it. ?0 -
Stig said:I can't vouch for Octopus, but their adverts that feature customer calls do amuse me. I particularly like the one featuring the bloke with the alcoholic slur who prattles on for ages about how brilliant they are only to end up saying "that's what makes you one of the best energy companies". Only 'one of', wow what would he say if he thought they were the best? Also the one with the poor old northern boy who goes "Thank you for talking t' me". I always imagine this poor old bloke has just had his first social interaction in a month.
I've been saying this for ages! Whenever it comes on the radio I say that he is either insanely drunk or is just trying to be as unbelievably sarcastic as possible and it's actually a complaint2 -
Looking into this for my mum and not sure what to do for the best. I suppose sticking with the standard tariff now with the new price cap, then fixing when it's about to increase makes sense. Though presumably the fixed tariffs will be increased at the same time so maybe it's best to fix now? 🤷0

I'm with Octopus tracker & 3 adults in a 4 bed semi.
My bill for May was £90 and my average winter bill was £160pm.
If anyone is switching to Octopus here's a link which gets both parties £50 off their bill. https://share.octopus.energy/melon-camel-122.

In May we used 438kwh of electric, paid £80. Standard tariff would have been £110. April we used 417kwh, paid £51. Standard would have been just over £104.
Gas has remained pretty consistent, always cheaper but not by much.
Defo sticking with it for now, absolute no brainer in my opinion. Element of risk there but you can switch out easily enough but even if it crept over the cap for a few days, still saved plenty.
Pricing wise agile is event better but you need to be more on the ball and try and use less between 4pm - 7pm when the prices creep up. There's been a few days in recent months when they've actually paid you to use electric.1 -

I've been on it for 18 months.
There hasn't been one day when the price has shot up drastically/concerningly.1 -
Are these the right tariffs to be on ?

I know it's not the original question but a plug for:
https://www.greenenergyuk.com/
Only UK supplier with 100% green electricity and gas.
I've been with them for a few years.0 -
Flexible is their non fixed tariff which essentially follows the price cap (I think).
If you've got smart meters, take a look at the tracker tariff - https://octopus.energy/smart/tracker/
The prices change daily but 99% of the time it's cheaper than what you're paying. Roughly by about 20%. Only drawback would be your daily standing charges would increase.
Risk is, there is potentially for those prices to go above what you pay now but as mentioned on a previous post that has happened on about 4 days over the last 2 years or so.1 -
