Josh Edwards - Back as a sub v Cardiff (p37)

Give him some U21 gamesProperCharlton said:Looks completely knackered, they exploited his lack of fitness constantly and I couldnt believe he played as long as he did.
Not his fault after being out for so long but I think a spell out the starting 11 is much needed for him.8 -
So far away from being good enough.4
-
Just doesn't make sense that he started over Mesik. If it's obvious to fans I'm not sure why can't Jones see it?13
-
I think the (harsh at the time) booking today really limited him and therefore the substitution was necessary.1
-
Totally unfair on him to be anywhere near the first team. Poor fucker was blowing after about 15 mins. Poorly managed by Jones.8
-
This is really sad - quite heartbreaking for Josh himself. Maybe it is just a case of building up fitness but I do worry he has lost his pace and sharpness.I don’t understand with all the sports science data these days why NJ would think he was ready to start. That feels like management by wishful thinking.2

A horrendous lack of fitness is what limited him today. Positionally he was all over the place by the second half, constantly caught out of position and without the legs to get back. He looked completely knackered out there.valleynick66 said:I think the (harsh at the time) booking today really limited him and therefore the substitution was necessary.
A baffling selection, when we have Mesik and Bell as other options.6 -
It's great to see Edwards back, but that doesn't mean he has to start. Why is he in the side ahead of two international full backs who completed pre-season?Sadly, I think the answer is that he has a longer throw and we treat that as an attacking asset.3
-
He's being played in Championship games against monster teams like it's pre-season.
Both goals came down his side.1 -
Also have no idea why he started ahead of Mesik6

He needs to head off to the U21s for a month and build up from there. Putting him in from the start at the moment could be considered ‘cruel and unnecessary punishment’
I would sort of understand if Mesik had been a disaster, but he hasn’t. Far from it.5 -
It should have been Bell today, though I kind of have a suspicion that Bell and Koumetio haven't quite worked out their partnership given they both like to step into the same half space in front of the defensive line. I like Mesik a lot but we needed a bit of defensive calm and experience there and I can't understand why it was Edwards given he looks completely shot inside half an hour3
-
Real shame as he was maybe our best player at the start of last season - but he's looked like a National League fullback since returning1
-
We know the lad has the talent he is just not match fit and needs full 90 minute games in the U21s. No more complicated1
-
Why did Jones the tactical genius play him?1
-
Started really brightly but every single run brooks made at him just kept worse and worse. I’d understand rushing him if we have no LB but we have 3 options capable there3
-
Like JE as much most fans. But he is so far from being match ready it is totally unfair to ask him to play in a Championship game.DennisBooth said:Why did Jones the tactical genius play him?
So totally bewildered by Jones' decision to drop Mesik or not play Bell there. In fact, the sort of decision that usually comes when a manager has run out of ideas and is desperately throwing his cards in the air and hoping they fall well.2 -
Both goals were on his side, but the buck stops with NJ for choosing Edwards ahead of Mesik and Bell.
It was a key factor in us not getting a point on board.2
