I think with Lloyd Jones playing through a bit of pain we put Mitchell on the bench to cover that central centre back position

If he is out I'd like us to try Small back on the left with TC on the right (or vice versa) and Godden & Leaburn up top like we played for a bit yesterday, full backs would be terrified
Campbell left and Small right for me.  I suspect NJ will bring Watson in
If we really, really have to play Campbell as a wing back, and then it makes more sense to move Small back over to the left, as while he and Gillesphey magnify each other's defensive frailties, I think Gillesphey and Campbell would be an even worse combination. Personally I think it's madness to do that if we have Watson available, as while the opposition full backs would be terrified it'd also compromise our current defensive strength, and we're not clinical enough in front of goal to outweigh that. Hopefully Edwards is fine and this is all academic though.

    Gillesphey’s defensive frailties, I assume you’re having a joke….

No, I can just remember what he played like earlier in the season - go and have a look at what people were saying about him in October. Now part of that was probably because Jones was out, so it may be less of an issue now he's back, but even before then, there were definite issues of him getting dragged out of position, and misunderstandings between him and Small when they played together on that side.

Sounds like Edwards had a bit of stiffness and fatigue according to Jones, hence why he got taken off when he did.
Not surprising really. I know we're on a great run but i'm quite surprised that Jones hasn't rotated more. Wigan will be our 5th game in 2 weeks and some of them must be knackered. My one fear at the moment is a key player getting injured because we hardly ever rest anyone.

If Peterborough is called off it might be a good thing for us, give the squad a few days off to recover and rest for the run in.

Fair enough. Just think the words Gillesphey and frailties shouldn’t be mentioned in the same sentence after his recent form.

What we see with Jones is his leadership and it helps the form of his fellow centre halves. If Jones has a poor game we look poorer.

If Edwards is out I'd go with Ramsey at RWB and Mitchell back in at RCB. Small then switches across to LWB.

Campbell is not a wing back and I really don't want him shoe horned into that position. He offers far more further up the pitch.

I wouldn't touch the back 3 ...... it's the bedrock of our defensive strength.

Maybe bring Watson in at RWB, but I'd prefer it if Small is left where he is too.
The less changes the better. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

The other thing, I believe Watson is able to cover LWB.
Or McIntyre, apparently also able to play FB and being a natural left footed defender.

But let's hope we see Edwards on Saturday.

Transfermrkt says Mcintyre has played 22 matches at left back, I would put him there if Edwards is out,

Sounds like his absence was just a minor thing, an enforced rest, but wont be anything significant

Another key player rested as long as the injury not too serious.

Having Small as Left-Back against the pace of Peterborough might actually be a bit of a blessing.

Pleased that Watson shoved the words (shit) down your throat. Not easy when you have been out for a long time.

Sounds like he's closer to being involved this weekend, been taking part in training.

Strange as the way Jones spoke last week, I thought he would be in the squad and everything was okay.

He won’t be my vote for POTY but I think he’s my favourite player in this team. No nonsense, minimum 7/10 every week with the occasional 8 or 9. I don’t ever worry that he’ll have a bad game.

Exactly the type of player that’s been missing the last half a dozen years.
Very much in the Solly/Young mold of fullbacks who do exactly what is needed with no fuss or frills and get the job done.
Will never catch the eye over the Campbells and Goddens who get the goals and glory but never lets you down.

In fairness to Edwards he's got a bit more about him in an attacking sense than Solly IMO, not saying he's a better full back mind

Think your memory is failing you there, prime solly was superb on the offensive and certainly much more of a threat than Edwards (who I like a lot but isn’t really offensive or turning opposing defenders inside out)

Physically he reminds me of John Pender from yesteryear.

    It’s that Rugby player look.

Wouldn’t be surprised if we see more signings from Scotland in the next few years. Got to be more bargains out there.

Couldn’t agree more. As you say you know what you are going to get and he never disappoints. We are a different beast with Josh in the team. Coming down from Scotland he appears to have settled remarkably well and he’s only going to get better. When fit he’s one of the first names on the team sheet. Long may it continue.

One in a long tradition to unshowy but solid as a rock Charlton fullbacks. As you say, having a few 7/10 every week players is the foundation for any successful team. He looked decent in his first game and has really grown into the team and league. I think he can step up to Championship should we secure promotion.
