RIP Bob Newhart

The behemoth of US comedy has passed away at the age of 94. RIP Mr Newhart.

  • A very English type sense of humour.
  • Ah that is sad, behemoth is a good word to describe him.

I think somewhere I still have a complete album of his masterclass monologues.

"What do you then, Walt? You stick it in your ear, right Walt? what... you what? you put it in your mouth and then.. you..you.. set fire to it, Walt?"

Or something like that. He's doing a phone call with Sir Walter Raleigh who has discovered tobacco.

An absolute classic that sketch. RIP Bob.
  • Sad news but a good innings, RIP Bob.
  • We are all so fortunate that he gave up his career as an accountant.

His comedy records are just brilliant, and I could believe that several bus companies use his skit as a training tool...
  • I can't remember who the dj was, but Bob Newhart was a staple of the lunchtime comedy slot on Radio 1 in the '70s. RIP Bob.

terrific comedian with a knack for getting laughs from everyday happenings .. like this .. please excuse the sexism .. https://youtu.be/XaUYQZR-y7I
  • Absolutely loved it everytime he popped up as a cameo in TV shows and movies in his later years, a brilliantly funny man and a "Hall of Famer" in the comedy world

  • RIP Bob, thanks for the laughs, the 'driving instructor' sketch was simple, unassuming and funny!! Sleep well sir xx

  • A comic genius. RIP
  • Iconic is appropriate.  I remember my mum and dad having a couple of his records.  Genius at being funny without actually trying to tell jokes
