Firesticks

I don’t know whether I’m using the correct term but I’m referring to the dongles that give access to all the tv stations/live streams via the internet. I understand that they are plugged into the tv via HDMI. I was wondering whether the dongle could be plugged into a laptop for use whilst abroad?

  • No experience of it abroad but don’t see why not. I have heard tell of them being taken to various holiday homes and large UK based woodland holiday camps though. Allegedly.
  • Unless the laptop has a HDMI input port then no.

Depending on what you want to watch, best bet would be to install Kodi and get a premium add-on.
  • It can be done allegedly

HDMI in to USB out - £16.99 on Amazon allegedly
I think you allegedly have to add a little bit of software called OBS Studio

    Allegedly
     ;)

  • Laptops don't usually support any input so even if you have a laptop with a HDMI port it probs won't work. Also TVs are usually locked down in hotels which usually means that you it won't work either unfortunately but you might get away with it if they don't manage them!

Not sure if that strips out drm / hdcp though.
  • If someone had two televisions i.e. one in the bedroom and one in the sitting room, would that person be able to use the dongle in both tellys or is that dongle set only for one tv?

My friend is full of questions today…I’ve no idea what he’s talking about 🥸 but all answers are fully appreciated. 🤓

No idea what you mean I'm afraid.  All I know is when my mate did it he had all channels on his laptop and the job was a good'un
  • I don’t use a Firestick myself; but if they work like other Android boxes, then you use an IPTV app and insert a username and password, which then gives you access to the channels.

Just download an IPTV app on your laptop and insert your username and password (that you use on the Firestick) and you should be good to go.
  • Mods, members only thread maybe?
  • It can be used on a iPad if that helps

fair enough, when i've tried it before it hasn't worked and the TVs I manage at work won't let you do it
  • I now know a person that has this fire stick and is able to watch all the football matches live especially the 3pm kick offs on Saturdays. And it apparently works on the laptop. But just one last requirement before ditching the BT tv contract is whether it will still work whilst abroad. I can’t think of any reason why it shouldn’t…🧐🤓😉
