“South Londoners raise £3k for street cleaner’s holiday – but bosses say no”

Veolia, his employer. “It could be considered a bribe”.

For the avoidance of doubt, a bribe is a financial incentive offered to an employee to do something they otherwise would not and should not do in their work role, which benefits the person or entity offering the bribe.

I know Veolia pretty well. They got hold of the contract to ruin, sorry run Prague’s water system. They followed what you might call the British approach to water, but the difference here was that they pissed everyone off so much the City Hall grabbed it back off them.

It is impossible that the senior management of that outfit do not understand the meaning of the word “bribe”

  • Can one of the fundraisers not just give it to him as a personal gift unrelated to work?
  • My ex's dad worked at both Woolwich town hall and as a refuse collector across the borough. He was always bringing back 'free' stuff. I once got three litres of brandy that he procured from the town hall.
  • That really is pathetic! I suppose, if he takes the money, they will lock him up for accepting 300 bribes of 10 quid each.

How many golden handshakes have they taken? How many bonuses, or target reaching bonuses have they taken? Bunch of arseholes
I'm thinking more along the lines of all the "corporate entertainment" they have to endure in their senior roles, all the days they play golf in the name of doing business, all the "team-building" sessions in Bali or somewhere like that. That's going to be worth at least £3k per head per year, but I'm sure they all dutifully record these benefits in kind on their HMRC submissions. And I'm trying not think of how Veolia (a French outfit) got hold of the Prague water system in the first place, especially as I know quite a lot about the dodgy local characters Anglian Water used to get their hands on Czech municipal water operations in the 90s. Not surprising that they've all forgotten the correct meaning of the word "bribe".
  • couldnt he just find it in a bin?
