Gillsephey was brilliant at Wigan and had another good game on Saturday. We need to forget last season and judge him on what he’s doing now.

We do need another option there which is why Potts will probably be signed. Edwards has hardly played any football as a LCB so would probably be more of a weak link there than Gillesphey/Potts
  • It can't be that easy though to get the video and audio perfect as a one-man operation, must be a lot to think about.

I like Coventry and think he'll get better with more games under his belt. What was with his corners then? I saw an earlier comment that he put one into the side netting which is poor, I do just wish we were better at creating genuine chances from set pieces, if that happened I think we would score our fair share of goals.

As you say, we don't seem that good so far at running past people in the middle of the park. TC has genuine pace but in preseason I haven't seen much sign of hard-to-catch speed from Ahadme, Chuks, Godden, Doherty, Anderson, DK or Berry..?
Yeah, I just need to get some new equipment, wasted far too much money on junk recording stuff, trial and error though.

They just weren't very good. He plays the simple passes, and he keeps the ball well, but his passing range isn't great from what I've seen so far. Hoping that improves as the season goes on.

None of them can do it, Docherty could before 4 years ago, maybe he can't anymore, hopefully he will find it again as the season goes on. It's definitely our biggest problem atm though, even Haaland would have a hard time playing up top for us with the lack of service.
  • Honestly couldn't give a shit about May, Dobbo or CBT (who wasn't that good anyway once found out!)

Good luck to them of course but we needed to be a better "team" and whilst its early days, it seems it we will be that.

That is so much more important than 3 players.
Looks like an ever increasing terrible decision by CBT to leave. Spent most of his career bouncing around Leagues 1 & 2 and never really settled until he got to us. Finally looked like he found a home and was playing some great football. Had his head turned and now doesn't get a game.

Would expect to see him back down in league 1 in Jan.
  • Agree with a lot of that but Campbell is way quicker than May
I am not so sure, I think Campbell is quicker with the ball at his feet, but in a flat race, I think May chases better. Either way, I think it's a bit odd he's starting cause he's not good enough for where we want to be imo and should be a bench option at best.

    And a lot stronger

He's not a lot stronger imo, and even if he was, it's not really relevant as neither of them are beating a proper tough centre back shoulder to shoulder, we'd be looking at that type of striker to make intelligent runs and take his chances, which currently Campbell does neither very well.

If Dobson was here, he would still be starting, Nathan Jones made that quite clear, and I've still yet to see any of our midfielders demonstrate the passing range Dobson has. Saw it in on show yesterday vs Bolton, had extremely underrated passing range.

The problem is the owners just don't have the money required to 'Man City' this league. Otherwise we wouldn't have to sell key assets to take chances on more unknown quantities.

Hopefully Jones can convince them to dip further though as this looks like a good season for us if we can strengthen up a bit.

having seen the 'tackle' I am at a loss as to how Clare stayed on the pitch; absolutely horrific!
Is there a close up video of the assault available?

Not now, but on the day it was clear that Clare went over the top of the ball and caught Josh square on the ankle, looked deliberate, and should have been a red...🤷‍♂️

I don’t think Jones would start Dobson ahead of Coventry, Docherty or Berry. Coventry played the deeper role last season once Jones took over, and the other 2 both played at higher levels than Dobson ever has last season, and both offer much more goal threat which is what we need from those roles.

We didn’t go back in for Dobson this summer, so that clearly shows he fancies Docherty and Berry more, as they are probably on similar money to what Dobson was after.

He’d probably be the next option, but if he was commanding a first team wage then the club probably couldn’t justify it which is fair enough. You can’t just expect us to spend spend spend, we have one of the better budgets in the league already

Ok thanks, saw it on sky highlights but a waste of time really, couldn't see any real detail.
  • How did Donley for LO?  What position did he play?
Surprised he went straight into their starting XI given he only signed on loan on the Friday.

    Didn't do very much tbh.

Had been training with them since Tuesday.

A couple of nice passes but not much more than that. Seemed to have a decent engine on him but there was a lack of movement around him. Looks like there's a decent player in there but could take time to adapt to his teammates/the realities of L1 football
  • MANNION: nothing to do
A.MITCHELL: a decent upgrade on what we had, all about defence
JONES: his injury last season must have been earlier and more serious than we realised - he's barely recognisable, bailed Gillesphey out a couple of times
GILLESPHEY: surely only starting cos he's the only natural left sided CH we have? ponderous and error strewn against a couple of toothless lightweight opponents so far
RAMSAY: did well carried some threat
BERRY: quiet game until he popped up in the right place at the right time
COVENTRY: industrious and fairly composed without pulling up any trees, pretty safe until he took a corner or free kick when he was relentlessly hopeless - do they practise?
DOCHERTY: tougher than Coventry and busier than Berry but  unremarkable so far
EDWARDS: Gillesphey was exposed quite a bit early on which suggests his defending wasn't brilliant, very unlucky to get brutally done by the coward Clare
AHADME: not even nuisance value, he doesn't look awful but he's barely ever involved
CAMPBELL: no service, long balls toward the smallest bloke in the team are stupid, especially when he could burn past any of the Orient defenders, if only the pass had come
SMALL;  doesn't lack confidence, but his crossing lacks quality

Referee: did he win his boots and whistle in a raffle or christmas cracker?

ANEKE; one explosion of pace over about 30 yards (and the ensuing dismal clumsiness) had us all fearing his ability to continue, a better target for the hoofball but no telling contribution
GODDEN: looks to be in the Alfie May all action mould, clearly understood the brief for his 20 minute cameo

    ...🤷‍♂️

Donley played one really nice pass early on which led to an Orient shot and I thought “here we go…” to be honest with you. But after that he was largely anonymous I thought.

Anybody else remember that collectors item near the end of the game, when Chucks ran so fast I thought he was going to do himself a mischief?
    It’s Chuks old son.

Apart from the assist. Coventry may have got a slight touch on it, but it was one of a few decent headers he won.
He thrives on passes to his feet in and around the box, but he very rarely receives any.

    Thanks for that.

    That's horrendous !

Might of been me but my abuse was aimed at Wellens
No swearing btw, just told Wellens to get back in his box and undo his top button

  • The ref was poorly positioned at right angles to the tackle. He wouldn't have seen the point of impact. Assistant Referees never seem to do what they should do.

What about the flick on for the goal? I'd say that contribution was pretty telling
Mitchell, decent upgrade? He's on another level compared to last seasons dross

Agree re the so called "Assistant Referees", but Clare had both feet off the ground, and it was reckless and I would say deliberate, a decent ref would have seen that for what it was and sent the sod off...🤷‍♂️

The ref only saw it from behind Clare's head and body.

You sound very forgiving mate...if the guy couldn't read intent in that, then I give up, as indeed so should he...
