My Energy Company have just emailed to say my old meter has come to end of its life and by law it will have to be replaced.And I should make an appointment to have a
Smart meter installed.Is this the companys way of making us have a Smart Meters.? I do believe it is not compulsory.

I have told the three or four energy providers I have had in the last six years (they change hands faster than Charlton do managers) to do one.
OVO the latest corporate robbing machine, sent me an email/text to book an appointment with an engineer as "my meter was faulty" without any reason. They are really pushing this now with these falsehoods in an attempt to get these meters in. The embryo I spoke to on their helpdesk was nice enough, but incredulous that I did not want to take them up on their offer.

They're always the same, older people (with the greatest of respect) who seem to be complete luddites wanting to go back to cave times and hitting each other with shitty sticks, and people that understand that they're not some sort of conspiracy to [insert insane theory here]
I'm saving a fortune thanks to Octopus' tracker rate, which you need a smart meter for as the prices vary daily, on some days less than 50% of the energy cap.
