Don’t have to know anything about building to see that it is a monumental fuck up.
Virtually the classic definition of crap civil engineering/building work (to say nothing of dubious health and safety practices) is if it is obviously noticeably shoddy to anyone lookng at it. If those with no knowledge can see something is off, it's generally really bad.
Have you any idea how they came to fuck up like that….be interesting to find out how they managed it?
Builder cut wrong size hole. But window company surveyor didn't notice. Hmmm
I've no idea about building or window fitting, but if the builder cut the hole first how can it be 'wrong' as such? Doesn't the window fitter simply measure the hole and then make their window to the size?
I imagine that is what happens when the hole is already there but if you book the two at the same time you give the builders the spec to make the hole and the window company the spec to fill it. If the window company made the window to the correct size, I think it is the responsibility of the builders. I don't know for certain but the simplest solution could be a new window with the correct dimensions for the hole that is there. I would demand the buiders cover the cost of that.
It’s certainly someone’s fault, either the window manufacturer or the builder. It’s not yours. Say you’re not happy that it’s wrong and demand that it’s done correctly as per your original expectations. You hold the money fortunately.
Looking at the lintol above, the opening looks correct with the window appearing to be wrong.
was the lintol new?.
Looks like a new lintel. In Fact to the left of that picture the lintel isn’t sitting with enough lintel on the shoulder of the opening. Needs sorting out properly. It can’t sit on timber like that and be expected to do its job. It should have 150mm each side on the shoulder of the opening. It’s a botch job.
I'm lucky that I have a lot of friends that are builders and between them I have most trades covered. I even arrange for any work to be done for when I'm away on holiday, that suits me and them. Getting back to the window in the picture that is 100% unacceptable. Do not part with any more money until they replace it with one that fits properly. Good luck.

It all looks a bit of a dogs dinner. I'd also question the lintel and the sandwich of timber, both of which are carrying loads. Lintel looks off centre and the bit of timber directly above the lintel looks like there hasn't been much pride taken there, might be camera angles playing tricks. The ledger board looks like its short. Maybe get a surveyor to have a look at that and other bits that your guys have done. The window fitters should never tried to fit that window it that opening. I would be very disappointed paying for that standard of work, absolutely shocking skill levels.
When we had our extension a couple of years ago I had to stand in the kitchen with a tape measure and demonstrate to the laborers why they needed to add another course of brickwork to the opening they'd left for our kitchen window, given that they had made the opening about 10cm lower than the height of a standard kitchen unit.

Incorrect measurement during the planning stage.
