    Hales could volley, hit it with either foot, shoot on the turn, his placement was exceptional, and had a knack of getting to the ball before a defender who you’d have to say was favourite for it. A truly great goalscorer.

    8 & 9 were traditionally the two strikers in that era

    A real shame that the camera quality wasn't better for when Hales was playing, as he looked some player. 

    Is there any reason in particular it didn't seem to work for him at Derby County? I noticed he moved there right after Derby had won the title, so he must have been very highly regarded. 

    Also, what would you expect the price tags of the likes of Hales, Colin Powell and Flanagan in the modern era?

    Correct. Hales was a pure striker. 

    Am pretty sure before him that Ray Treacy usually played with a No.8 on his back and he and Matt Tees were a two up front. Before that, Roy Matthews with an 8 to Firmani’s number 9. There were undoubtedly exceptions (Revie as a 9 with Man City?) but Hunt and St. John (8 and 9) at Liverpool, Clarke and Jones at Leeds etc etc.

    I was there for the goals but can't remember who we were playing on some of those finches home videos. 

    Absolutely loved Killer, what a player and character too.

    He was dirty, lazy, and would only really move if there was a chance of a goal,  but what a striker, my all time favourite player. You always knew you had a chance when he was playing. I seem to recall him "sorting out" hairy arsed defenders when they kicked Powelly up in the air.

    Only striker in history who could head it harder than he could kick it. Loved him. 

    In my memory he scored exclusively ugly bundled finishes from inside the 6 yard box or towering far post headers, but there are a few tidy finishes in there, to be fair.

    I was watching the 04/05 season review on your YouTube channel the other day and I'd forgotten how many goals El Karkouri scored. What a player.

    There were a lot of moments I had forgotten about from that season, actually. Rommedahl scored a corker up at Newcastle and could've had a hattrick. Jerome Thomas looking a baller in his first season and the Stephan Anderson save from point blank at home to Man Utd. Miss those days...

    It's amusing that the first goal in the clip would be considered and own goal these days, and the first 3 or 4 goals are spread over about 4 seasons.
