Getting to the Valley from Eltham

First game for me next Sat, staying with my sister in Eltham Park. She may decide to come with me, and she has a car, but with the new restrictions I’m not sure it makes any sense - certainly that’s what RBG want us to think, right? 
I’ll take a look at the train timetable, in priniciple we wouldn’t mind, but I.m nursing a knee problem so I may have to limit walking. 
If that’s the case, what about a cab? . Who do people use? Is Uber nowadays the best choice? ( i deleted their app a few years ago ago after they took “me” for a ride around Bristol while I sat in my garden in Prague watching in fascinated horror, especially when they duly charged me £19 - but that was a few years ago) And for the journey back, how do you agree a pick-up point with the driver?

    Train from Eltham change at Blackheath 29 mins, or loop direct 39 mins.

    Exactly, and she isn’t that close to the bus stop. That’s the only reason I’m thinking “cab”. In principle I hate the idea.

    Only issue with cab is getting one back maybe an uber there but get a pre booked back

    The 161 bus goes along Woolwich Road now as close as any bus can get to the ground without having to navigate a hill.

    Of course it is…he will be near a hospital.

    What's wrong with getting a cab? Sounds like the ideal solution getting to the game. Coming back you can take your time a bit more - go for a pint and let the crowds go before getting a 161 bus or train.

    What's wrong with getting a cab? Sounds like the ideal solution getting to the game. Coming back you can take your time a bit more - go for a pint and let the crowds go before getting a 161 bus or train.
    Just that in principle I like to use public transport where possible. If my knee holds up  (and its not a serious condition, just had a protein injection and it needs some nursing) I won’t mind the train. I’d forgotten there is a loop train from Eltham - i used that in Feb to get there and thought it was quite good. Had a seat all the way, whereas the train from Blackheath to Charlton will be busy.

    Uber will be about a tenner and drop you in Charlton Lane by the corner of Harvey Gardens. 

    161 is pain in the arse route nowadays

    In principle it's much healthier and better for the planet to walk - and it's not a bad walk as have done it many times. But as your knee is crook it's probably a question of needs must. A cab there takes out the worry and stress of getting there on time and puts less stress on your knee. 

    After the game there are two viable public transport options, or if your knee is playing up just call another cab.

    Or if we win by 5 or more, you could cartwheel all the way back! :-)

    Walk..., pack a tent and supplies and camp out on Woolwich Common, make an expedition of it...🙄

    Could you get your sister to push you along in a wheelchair? Getting up the hill after the game may be a struggle, but I'm sure she wouldn't mind.

    The main question I have is, if I want a cab back, what is the pick up point you ask it to meet you at? Are they allowed into the car park at the Valley?

    Go out of the Valley get any bus towards Woolwich and get a cab from Woolwich (or a 161)

    161 all the way to Woolwich Road, 5 min hobble to the ground! Not sure why you'd get off all the way back at the hospital

    If you leave it a bit and let the crowd disperse, a cab pick you up in Harvey gardens.

    Shame about the walking problem. The 161 to Woolwich Common, across the Common, down Ha Ha Road, right into Cemetery Lane, across the park and you’re there. Was a popular and enjoyable walk back in the day. Perhaps it still is.

    Used to be 161 (Charlton) all the way.

    Or

    161 (Woolwich) / 122 and change at Woolwich for 180 / 177 along Woolwich Road from bus stop opposite the ferry.

    Both Eltham and Charlton are registered on the electric pogo sticks scheme (eBoing), might be worth looking that up, sure the knee would be fine, it’s only 9 or 10 hops after all…

    The 161 from Eltham stops on Woolwich Road just before it gets to the Antigallican. It’s a short walk back along Woolwich Rd to Ransom Walk which goes  under the railway line and straight to The Valley. I’d say it’s about 300yds if your knees can take it.
    The stop for the return bus is right opposite.
    The buses are also quite frequent.

    Depending on how your knees are, get the 286 bus to Kirkside Road (halfway down Westcombe Hill) walk through the subway, left down Eastcombe Avenue, across into Fossdene Road and left into Inverine/Delafield Road will bring you out at the Valley Cafe.

    132 from High Street to IKEA, 180, 472,161 from there drops just over the road from Ransom Walk if you don't fancy too much of a stroll

    And the bus is £1.75. Much cheaper than a cab.
