Indeed centre forward is the one area where we have loads of depth anyway, considering that Miles and Kanu came off the bench on Saturday, Chuks didn't get on the field and Ahadme can't even make the 18.
This.
No problem with him being a coach but no need for the player tag as he wont be chosen for the 18 man squad - Nathan told us we can look to the youth if we need to bolster the team (or so we were told we we signed no other attacking options last month).
He's like a real life Ted Lasso character. One of my favourite sub-genres of footballer is player who is an absolute psychopath on the pitch and a lovely person off it. Apparently Luis Suarez and Diego Costa were both really pleasant, chill people outside of football but as soon as they crossed that white line they were monsters. Nice to add Danny Hylton to that list.

I must admit Chuks was looking out of place against Peterborough. You could see (after we got a goal) Leaburn asking Chuks to go to the corner flag and he (Chuks) didn't want to do it. He also kept on giving the ball away.
At least with Hylton he doesn't mind doing the rubbish jobs around the place, so he is signing on again to take Chuks place on the bench (or at least compete with him).
Anyway we shouldn't moan that is at least one goal we get against Northampton.
I think Chuks might be finished to be honest, has looked bewildered on the pitch whenever he's played in the last month or two. Big Hylts to come on and score a 120th minute at Wembley

No way, we need chuks on the bench or we won't get promoted.
Don't want to get too attached. I'd wouldn't be surprised he'll get his A Licence and be back at Luton (when they come down to this Level). Wouldn't mind him staying on as a FT coach (in the Championship hopefully), but his heart is there.
Seems a nice fella from that interview, literally nothing to complain about this appointment and if Jones wants him around the place then that's good enough for me.
Jones is (IMO) massively in credit for how he's turned things around - yes it's taken a bit longer than we all hoped, but we play some lovely football now

It's only a month since Chuks came on and made a big difference, as we came back to win against Bolton.

I like that he sees his role as not letting the players get too low, or too high. TC has a bad game, misses a sitter and we lose? Hylton will pick him up and make sure his confidence stays high. Leaburn scores a hattrick and gives it the big I am in training the next day? Hylton shatters his kneecap.

Golfie, you mentioned the managers statement regarding 'using the youth' quite a few times now, I take it you were not impressed with the fact that we didn't bring another forward into the club by the end of the window and you obviously are not of the opinion that the under 21's can make that jump. Bearing in mind we had three strikers on the bench against Exeter and, as has been mentioned, Ahadme was not considered, what forward, in your opinion, should we have brought in, winger, goal scorer, and who would you have omitted from Saturday's line up? Serious question mate, not having a dig.

But the other week his performance was poor.
It happens. I've said it before but he's never going to be the sharpest given the amount of minutes he gets so not really surprising if his touch etc is off. He's there to make life difficult for centre backs late on and create space for others. Thankfully we've not needed him much given the form we've been in.
Him bearing down on a Chelsea youngster who passed it out for a Goal Kick from the centre-circle in the EFL Trophy shortly after he clattered their Goalkeeper has to be one of the funniest moment of the season.
Couldn't agree more. I know he's become a bit of a jokey figure and we all enjoy that but he comes across really intelligently and really kindly. Completely different to his on pitch persona
I doubt he reads Charlton Life but he does seem like if he did he'd probably find the joke/meme version funny and probably play it up a bit.
I watched him a lot at Aldershot when Charlton were playing away. I loved his style of play , scored some brilliant goals and came off the pitch every game having given everything
You know Jones is doing a good job when this appointment is being heralded! 😂 Last time this was announced Jones was considered a laughing stock.
Comes across excellently in that interview and I think will have more than earned his salary this season by being a positive role model in the dressing room. We've been lacking club leadership in the playing staff for years and now we seem really well blessed in that department.

I entirely agree that he seems a positive role model in the dressing room, and seems to be doing a good job with the younger forwards.
I've no idea how good a coach he is, as opposed to being a good "bloke".
He is clearly doing a decent job as a coach, or he wouldn't still be here, and the player element is cover which we probably won't need but might. Nothing not to like.
Can you imagine the reaction to this news on here if we were 17th and not 7th
Football in some ways is a pretty simple business. When a team is doing well then everything is nice and everyone is great, when it’s not, it’s the opposite.
At the end of the day, Nathan Jones is the manager and at our current level it should be his decision what the football budget is spent on. If he wants Hylton on board from that budget rather than a better player or more experienced coach, then that’s down to him.
Excellent decision I think, the guy clearly has played a part with the morale and spirit in the team. Seems like a no brainer to keep him involved, wonder if we'll see him on the bench again
Keep him in reserve until the playoffs, then unleash, obv
Can imagine it now, watching the next series of Welcome To Wrexham with him coming on in the 85th minute and bagging the winner 5 minutes later.. cue footage of all the celebs crying.. one can dream!
I said in my comments after the Chelsea U21 game, that his touch in the lead up to the TC goal, was worth the price of the ticket alone. I also said if he could teach that to our young strikers, he'd have earned his money as a coach.

Don't know about this but I heard the word learn a lot.

*So if he does it'll be sometime before he is.

Though Ahadme is meant to be fit right?
Has anyone got the montage of him in his striking pomp?
There must be one out there.

It's a big thumbs up from me...
They are mainly year/season compilations rather than a full career one.
