Today we welcome Blackpool to The Valley for what we all would like, a very entertaining match culminating in a further three points added to the total, Blackpool arrive today after earning their first league win of the season last weekend in what was Steve Bruce's first game at the helm, claiming a late 2-1 win at home to Exeter which leaves the Seasiders 19th in the table having taken five points from their five fixtures to date.

We've clashed 68 times prior to today, winning 19, the Seasiders 31 and the remaining 18 meetings ending all square, Charlton came from behind to claim a 1-1 draw at Bloomfield Road when we last met in January.

We could finish today top and clear...if that other two oblige with a couple of losses...🙄

Team info…

Charlton: Mannion; Edmonds-Green, Jones, Gillesphey; Ramsay, Coventry, Docherty (c), A.Campbell, Small; Kanu, Ahadme

Subs: Maynard-Brewer, Potts, Anderson, Berry, T.Campbell, Aneke, Godden

I think Blackpool are a better team than 19th in the league. They've had twice as many shots on target than us, but conceded four times as many.
If we can stay as resolute defensively as we've shown so far, we have enough to win.

NJ has spoken of our lack of finese in the final 3rd, I hope this is the game where it clicks.

2-1 with TC getting his first for the season, Aneke with the sealing goal.

Blackpool are quite good at scoring but quite bad at not conceding. It either means they'll be better than our solid defence is used to and our less assertive attacking play won't take advantage of their weaknesses in defence, or it'll mean that our ability to shut out opposition attackers while creating high quality chances will mean we make the most of their weaknesses and negate their strengths. I like to think it'll be the one where we win.

Interesting line up... Glad to see Kanu starting, he did well on Tuesday, as did REG who I presume is only in after Mitchell got a knock against Shrewsbury (?) - Anderson is lucky to be there ahead of Edun and Taylor for me.

That is a very one-paced midfield. Wingbacks going to have to work hard to compensate.

No Mitchell at all so must be injured? REG and Kanu were very good in the week so happy with that and Berry clearly needed a rest/reset. Looking forward to this

Agreed, nice to finally have a squad whereby we can swap players in and out

Agree. But I wish he had Godden alongside him instead of Ahadme.

    Interesting changes.

Up front with so many options it feels like we're trying to find the right combination. Kanu might give the balance we need, a more natural striker/goalscorer but has the pace and energy to run the channels, something that seems to be an important part of our style of play.

Anderson not completely dropped from the squad despite his red card.

Can only assume Alex Mitchell is injured/ill. Good chance for REG, probably not as solid defensively but he's better on the ball and probably more natural when moving across to wider positions.

No Mitchell & no Berry. Golden only on the bench.

    Can I change my 3-0 to 0-3 😄
  • Got to be really disheartening for Terry Taylor, deserves to be on the bench at least. After midweek you think he would’ve done enough to get in over Karoy
  • Albie Morgan starts for Blackpool

So if we lose it's all Albie's fault again?

It'll be like the old days ...
  • There was a lot of positive comments about Zach's ability to drive forward on Tuesday, but noticed REG was able to do it on occasion as well - Hopefully sees us keep it down more.

Who wants to tell him? ;)

Ahadme scored last Saturday (never mind it was a scruffy-arsed goal) so surely he'll come into today's match with a bit more confidence; it might kick-start his season.

Don’t mind the changes other than Mitchell who is a loss.  Anderson is a very lucky boy to be in the squad ahead of Taylor.

REG is a good player and Berry has been poor. Godden will be on the pitch at some stage.

Offiah starting for Blackpool - liked the question about his nickname on Charlton Live, is it Great Balls?

    What’s wrong with Mitchell?
    He’s a huge loss

No word on Mitchell so it may even be tactical. Home game and REG brings the ball forward well. The official site otherwise might have referenced a knock.

Potts on the bench to cover a few positions, etc.
  • Edwards being rested?

I don’t think Anderson is a lucky boy to be on the bench in front of Taylor.

This is nothing to do with who played better midweek. However the only way Taylor gets on the pitch is if Coventry is injured.

Otherwise Docherty and Campbell will cover more yards then Coventry, and will play at a higher tempo, so it’s more likely both of them may need to replaced.

Anderson can do that role, Taylor can’t. We are joint top in the league without playing a double pivot, it’s not going to change now because Taylor had one good game against Cambridge.

Morgan 9-1 anytime.  22-1 first scorer.  I couldn’t resist a 50p nibble.  Does that make me a bad person?

Christ... Be great if we can win by those scorelines
