Oh how very sad... Was only yesterday that I was reading an old comment from Daniel Radcliffe about working with her on David Copperfield, how it was her who apparently helped get him the part of Harry Potter what with having worked with him previously.

RIP to a legend of British film.

    Oh no!

I know 89 is a good age but that's really saddened me.

Absolute acting legend, feel like I grew up with her in so many films, Hook (one of my absolute favourites as a kid), Secret Garden, Sister Act etc, then she was so good in Harry Potter & Downton.

    RIP.

This is a brilliant scene when Maggie Smith plays a music hall star working on recruiting soldiers for the First World War.
Her character is sensational and charming, but is also a woman with a job to do. Acting is duplicitous, but there is a triple layer from her in this scene, where she sneaks in a rather chilling here on business moment in the performance.
    Unforgettable.

Maggie Smith was the Doyenne of stage and screen and won every award going. She was a brilliant actress and had a career over 65 years and was as well know by younger folk because of Harry Potter and seniors who saw her probably first in the Prime of miss Jean Brodie back in the late 60's. Impressive CV and played parts far removed from her birth place in Ilford.

    RIP
    Maggie SmithĀ

  • So sad. A great actress. I have enjoyed all of her work. When I saw Bed Amongst the Lentils at 17 made me want to go to the theatre for the first time. RIP Maggie, sleep well.
