1 win in 9 is far from respectable, it is relegation form.SouthWest_Addicks said:
In the minority here, but I feel he will still finish the season as manager. Especially if Aneke is back very shortly. 8 clean sheets out of 19 matches is very respectable.Leuth said:I've been fairly adamant he has to go for a few weeks, but yesterday would be the wrong game to fire him after. The players got a deserved clap off at the end. It was a horrible game and we play terrible football, but...it would feel wrong, this time, for me.
Win the next two and we'll review
After the shambles of the Appleton appointment, I don’t think the senior leadership will want to navigate the hassle and embarrassment of going through another hiring process.
There is still a lot of delusion amongst fans about how poor we really are. We had some flukey wins at the start of the season without which we would be in the relegation zone already. Our play and our results in the past 2 months have been dreadful. The 'positive signs' in the second half on Saturday came because Mansfield dropped back in the hope of getting a point, leaving the midfield open. And we still could not score!
If Jones cannot fashion a win before Jan 1 we will definitely be in the bottom 4. Then he will be sacked for sure. Whatever the price it will still be less than the cost of relegation.12 -

- happy to finish mid table (probably lower) in League 1.0 -
Thing is, it's not just us on here that know he's chatting complete bobbins.
The players will see it as well.

That’s been my concern for a while. Not only believing what he says, but buying into his tactics and enjoying the style they’re playing.carly burn said:Thing is, it's not just us on here that know he's chatting complete bobbins.

Most of if not all of these players are young enough to have come through academies who played a possession style. We were doing it over 15 years ago when Solly, Shelvey etc were coming through. It won’t be what many of them are used to, and I wouldn’t think many have years of experience playing defensive route one football in the EFL either.3 -
Maybe useless Charlie Methven may be of some use for once in luring a manager, you'd expect they're on good terms.follett said:Des Buckingham left Oxford. Would probably be a semi optimistic realistic replacement if Jones were to leave this month ..
Probably wishful thinking though.1 -
I would imagine (and hope) that what he says in pre/post match interviews and what he’s saying to the players behind closed doors are different things.carly burn said:Thing is, it's not just us on here that know he's chatting complete bobbins.

I never get too hung up on what a manager says in interviews - they’re pretty much contractually obliged to give those and just have to walk the line so they can’t say anything too controversial. The only time they are ever really worth listening to is when a manager is right at the end of their tenure and start slagging off individual players. N Jones doesn’t seem to be at that point (although slagging off our pitch was an interesting move, not something you often hear from the home team manager!).

Best pressing team in the league, awesome in the cups & we even beat Pompey’s second string in the summer.
If it wasn’t for our right back being injured & a shite pitch, we’d be top 6.12 -
Take a look at Small’s video, he seems very invested in our style of play. He even mentioned clean sheets as much as Jonescarly burn said:Thing is, it's not just us on here that know he's chatting complete bobbins.

The reason Jones didn’t get the Millwall job is he insisted on a clause in his contract that he could talk to PL clubs if they came in for him. He’s got the same clause with us.The owners can’t afford to pay him off - there’s no money - he’s unsackable as things stand.I was told the above from a mate who is a bit ITK with us.5

I heard he didn't get Millwall because he wanted total control over signings. Not doubting your source, but I don't think it was just that clause that stopped him getting the job thereElfsborgAddick said:The reason Jones didn’t get the Millwall job is he insisted on a clause in his contract that he could talk to PL clubs if they came in for him. 😄
Nothing you've said there would surprise me at all.
Jones having a fit to bursting ego.
And the owners really having no plans to shell out.
The whole thing is a sham I tell ya.

I don't think we are the best pressing team. We seem to do it sometimes but not all the time. Teams seem to have more time and less pressure on the ball against us than the other way round. Stats can be meaningless. Not always but your eyes will tell you that we are nothing special when it comes to pressing.6

We’ve scored 18 goals and are in the bottom half of the league so I’d say it’s utterly meaningless , even by Jones’ standards of inanity .MuttleyCAFC said:I don't think we are the best pressing team. Did all our recent managers do an online fan Q&A at some point? I definitely remember Holden doing one or two, not sure about Appleton.0
-
At least he's finally acknowledging our deficiencies.
"We tried to create", "the fans want to see more chances, and we are working religiously on that".
That's the first time that he's gone near the subject, so that, together with our slightly improved style on Saturday, might be a suggestion that the message is finally getting through to him, whether it was from the fans, or the board.
Going forward, we as a club, need to decide whether he gets the January window to bring in the players he needs to create those chances, or to pull the plug, and let another manager start all over again.
TC did well creating chances on Saturday, but we cannot be wholly reliant on just one player.
I'm thinking that Jones should be allowed another couple of games, to see if we can build on Saturday's slightly improved showing.
Working our way out of this horrible spell, with a solid foundation in place and a couple of incoming creative players, could be a good outcome going forward.

He told us to eat a pint of shit last time we went in for him, I doubt that he'll be any more interested now we've removed a lot of our creative footballers to make room for just running and violence. He does like a press but he also often likes a high line, lots of possession, fast transitions, dynamic movement and generally plays with wingers - though he's not averse to a 352. I'd really like us to get him in and I think he's been incredibly hard done by getting sacked but I don't think it's too likely and we'd need to perform a lot of very quick squad surgery to get him anything like what he needsfollett said:Des Buckingham left Oxford. I can well believe that creating chances is something they do on a Sunday, when they aren't there.queensland_addick said:At least he's finally acknowledging our deficiencies.

I really want it to work for Methven but his choice of manager and management of the club is woeful. He must go, he cannot choose the next manager. Why is Scott still here, unbelievable!DubaiCAFC said:
The fans wanted Jones - SMT also wanted him, that is correct, but from what has happened since the appointment is on Jones, he has been given everything he wanted. Yes, he might have missed out on some targets, but that will always happen... Apart from Dixon signing, every single signing has been 100% his choice. I was told when we appointed Jones, he is our most expensive appointment, if that is salary, clauses, bonus or whatever it is, he is getting paid a fortune at Charlton.JohnnyH2 said:
The SMT appointed Jones, there was no supporters choice that made the decision.DubaiCAFC said:
To be honest, how can you blame them for the style and the piss poor football.. Jones was the fans choice, he is the highest paid manager in Charlton’s history. He got backed in the summer, he got what he wanted..Uboat said:

it was better under Appleton. We need outside the box appointment, and give them time.. Jones isn’t the answer for moving this club forward.
As CM was only delighted to tell us all when things were going well under Jones, he was the SMT choice before Appleton
There are certain fans, whatever this ownership does, will always be anti them... But from what I have seen, they have made a lot of positive moves around the club, and from the outset, they said they wouldn't just buy their way through the leagues!! Jones has let them down badly so far, and will continue to do so, unless he changes his stubborn ways..
I really want it to work for Jones, but his style of play is woeful.4 -

Unbelievable! Charlie and his chums have really landed us in it now. We basically can’t afford to avoid relegation because of their contract mismanagement. He came across as a clueless clown on the Sunderland doc, but I thought that was just in the editing. Confirmed, he really is a dangerous idiot!ElfsborgAddick said:The reason Jones didn’t get the Millwall job is he insisted on a clause in his contract that he could talk to PL clubs if they came in for him.
