5 players made their Charlton Athletic first team debuts in this competition and then went on to gain full international cap(s) for their respective countries

2 of those went onto to play in the Premier League as well

The positives that this competition can have for a player starting his journey (Or getting a second go with the club)
I guess without the competition having prem teams involved, they'd have all gone on to be milkmen.
  • Is it streamed for £10 on Charlton TV?

No, it'll be on Sky. There is no UK CTV streaming for any game anymore
  • I am pretty sure I saw the Cambridge away game on Charlton TV, or was it a dream?
    Anderson was sent off.

    That was also on Sky

I don’t have sky so couldn’t have watched it on that. Trying to remember but pretty sure it was a ten quid match.
The club are not clear today, maybe they are leaving it to the last minute, or there are ‘technical difficulties’.
  • I watch the Charlton v Wrexham match via Charlton TV.

Not sure what to tell you other than that was only on Sky as per the OS and the new TV deal

The Scottish prem clubs wouldn’t want to play in it
Has anyone asked? Why not include lower league Scottish teams. In event of a draw it could be settled with Iron BRU  drinking contest
  • Do they put the price up for these games a certain unknown time before KO (I can't remember).
  • Think i'll give this one a swerve, and go to the cinema instead, and leave this one to the 'Glory Hunters'
  • A wonderful opportunity to watch the Premier stars of the future 🤔

Don't forget Nathan will be resting most of them tonight...🙄
  • Nathan Assimwe recalled, wouldn't be shocked to see him make the squad tonight
  • Just attempted to come up with an XI for this but I have absolutely no idea. We don't really know who is injured and how bad those injuries are or what shape NJ wants to play.
  • Yes, lets start the first team & see them get crocked. Its not as if we have loads of RB's and strikers sitting around doing nothing 🙄.

It's a shitty competition. Play the U21's, take the fine and move on.

Didn't Zak Mitchell get injured at Cambridge ?

Leaburn needs games IMO. Dixon too.
  • Not a great competition.  The one thing I like about it is that we get to see some fringe players, under 21s, maybe even under 18s which I normally enjoy and hope 1 or 2 might show enough to breakthrough.

This is so unfair as I’m actually in Spain 🤓
  • Is the game being streamed live on Charlton TV

Believe so, just pulling into Gard du Nord in time 😁

Chance to get to Wembley. Doesn't happen often for us. Personally I want us to win the tournament.

    The EFL sold out
An abomination of a tournament that has no place in either professional football or the match record of any club that has to participate in it.

If it were my club and I was loaded, we’d be fielding our U 21’s, taking the fine, and stating publicly that the result would be expunged (great word) from the clubs 1st team records.
It's a condition of our current level. I don't recall people moaning about it when we were in the Premier League.

I wonder if the current naysayers would turn up if we made the final?
that would be because it’s a totally different competition to what it was back then
As soon as we were relegated in 2009 we have had people moaning we should not be in it, even when it was just League 1 and 2 clubs.

Personally we are at the level we deserve to be and playing in this comp is part of that
I just fundamentally think the idea of a cup for L1/L2 is a silly one. Basically no one takes it seriously until the semi’s and players don’t need the extra games. Sure it gives young players a debut but it’s against other kids and peripheral figures so the benefits aren’t great
the prize money is something a lot of the competing clubs see as a benefit
Winner receives 100k, runner up 50k, not too shabby for a very winnable competition compared to the FA Cup and League Cup.
Why not keep the money that goes into the cup and equally distribute amongst L1 and L2 teams though?
The money all comes from the prem teams, if they’re removed then so is the money
Does it? So where did the money come from before 21s teams were added then? As that was only a few years back.
