If this tie was being played four weeks ago, you might not have given National League Southend United a chance against League One Charlton Athletic.
But the Shrimpers have rallied to win three and draw one of their past four games following a run of just two victories in their previous 10 (D3, L5).
The Addicks arrive at Roots Hall unbeaten in five and will be aiming for promotion to the Championship this season.
But Charlton are susceptible to a 'cupset', losing 2-0 away to League Two Gillingham in the second round last season and 3-1 in a replay at Stockport the year before, who were also one division below.
There are two tiers between these sides but will that matter on Saturday?
4 of us going to this - going to pub in Leigh on Sea beforehand - looking forward to this, and I am confident of a win for us - there you go, I have said it 😃
The other day I said to my son that I have a feeling we’ll finally have a bumper 5-0 win against a lower division team this weekend.
Half an hour later outside the back door was standing a red robin. I went outside, picked it up and walked with it on the palm of my hand all the way down the garden and made a bed of straw for it in the shed, having concluded that it must be injured.
However I was maybe a bit rough shoving in the straw because it then flew onto the wired fence of the side of the shed (this shed was previously an aviary). It let me take it once more for a few seconds but then flew to the other side of the shed. I opened both doors and eventually it found it’s way out and flew off.
I can’t believe that, seemingly uninjured after all, it let me pick it up and walk so far with it.
I believe that this robin was endorsing my prediction.
It’ll be a rip roaring goalscoring Addicks for you all to behold this afternoon.
We played Tamworth last week in the league and they were probably the worst side we have played all season, long throws included. On that basis it's an omen for this afternoon and Bonne will score, it's written in the stars. Safe journey down to all of you travelling today.

I think you might be right , finally got some opponents of an appropriate level for the non-league quality football we’ve been playing most of the season
Full on slagging of Bonne since he first joined CAFC and since he left. Bordering on an obsession. He so useless apparently, yet all I keep reading is he's going to score against CAFC today similar to the Cup defeat at Gillingham when Charlton were totally abject.
Roots hall bloke not included in this criticism and after seeing Tom Tonks longs throws to the far post against Huddersfield, National league teams must defend against it better than the Udders, as they struggled every time with Maxwell punching into his own net for the winner !
1-3 CAFC win
Billy mix stays away from post match thread and wait for the next time Charlton are shite !

Fans used to chant his name when he first came to Charlton. He rarely scores against anyone else, which is why it's so funny that he scores against us, cupping his hands to his ears and all!
What an absolute load of bollocks the TV rights situation is. I dont understand why as fans nationally we dont kick off more about it. You are not going to persuade me that TV companies around the world are gagging to show this or any other 1st round game. (And please don’t “Wrexham” me, you know that’s bollocks) . It would be so straightforward for exceptions to be negotiated for subscribers to club streams, but nah, who cares about them? This is the FA’s work, of course.
Anyway if any clever people find a stream, I’ve opened a separate thread. But for there to be a stream, some TV company somewhere in the world has to broadcast it.
Waited for the caravan that doubles up as the away fans' bar to open. Got to see Tracey Leaburn ask for a red wine (nope, beer and cider only), then discover that adding lemonade to beer makes a shandy, and that it's "quite nice actually". Lovely stuff.
Queue so long and slow that we ordered our beers and went straight to the back of the queue to get the next one

I've invested part of my non existent Winter Fuel Allowance so have hopefully cursed him.
Defeat incoming.
(Although I think we won in yellow when we best Harlow Town back in the early 80's)

Can we get it by signing up for a monthly subscription then cancelling after month one?
Edit: I see there is a 48h pass for £4. Written to ask if that will work.
is anyone aware of anything similar this time round so I can make sure to avoid said channel this afternoon ?
