FA Cup or League Cup

As a Charlton Fan what would you rather win (or have a cup run in)?

FA Cup all day long, grew up at a time when it was still a massive deal and have always loved it.  Would probably want to win in just as much as winning the PL.

    What a silly question.
  • I only ask since we went further in the league cup the other year
  • Always the FA Cup
  • Do we always do better in the league cup?
  • Obviously the FA Cup.

Even teams with a realistic chance of winning a cup prefer the FA Cup, and winning it gets you into Europe as well.

Think we're one of the worst teams in the history of the League Cup
  • Neither. The Bristol Street Motors Trophy is the one that gets me excited.

We’ve already won the FA Cup, let’s add the League Cup to our massive trophy haul!
  • Fa Cup is the only answer to this question, surely ? However  progression in either competition is a bonus. We have a really horrendous cup record in all cup competitions!

    But I'm serious.

Games under the floodlights against PL under 21 teams where our players get a chance to play against stars of the future; proper London derbies against the likes of Sutton and Bromley; and exciting away trips to the likes of Stevenage and MK Dons. What's not to like?

Plus there is always the real chance of getting to Wembley, unlike in the other cups. I'm sure anyone who saw us play against Blackburn in the final of the Full Members Cup will have never forgotten the experience.

It's a bit like asking. Would you like a cup of tea or dog shit sandwich?

I’m not so sure about that! It was the definition of a forgettable performance! Whereas both our play-off finals will live long in the memory. So maybe it’s more about the result on the day?

Don't remember the Full Members Cup Final with any fondness to be honest.

What a weird question. Why would anyone pick the League Cup?

Would you rather win the Champions League or the National League?

Tongue was firmly in the cheek when saying anyone there will never have forgotten the experience!

    It was awful, wasn't it?

It lost it for me when they changed the name, used to get aroused by the Papa Johns Pizza whatever.
  • Has to be FA Cup for the moneytary gains that round winners get. Plus gate receipt percentages.

But the replays going does kill some of the magic

Does it ? The dynamics now probably favour an upset. Making wholesale changes to a line up for cup games just got a little bit riskier without the fall back of holding in for a draw and putting out a much stronger team in the replay if necessary.

it also means both teams have to keep going right to the final whistle instead of sitting back and playing for a draw. I suspect last minute goals are going to become a lot more common in cup games.
  • Is this satire?
