MATCH THREAD : Burton Albion V Charlton Athletic : Tuesday 26th November 2024 : KO 19:45

Good Evening everybody...

So tonight we go again in a real must 🤞 win game at The Pirelli Stadium with Burton Albion who currently sit propping up the lot of us, after picking up just one win from their opening 15 matches, so should be an easy win right...well it should be but we've all been here before eh, however I am hoping that three points will be ours come 9:45 tonight.

We will be without captain Greg Docherty, who will serve a three-game ban following his ridiculous dismissal at the John Smith's Stadium, Mannion, Ramsay, Watson, Jones, Potts, Chuks and Kanu also missed Saturday's match through injury, also today we could be seeing Leaburn added to that ever expanding injury list after hobbling of as well.

We've gone toe-to-toe on 11 previous occasions winning six, the Brewers three and the remaining two meetings ending all square, Burton ran out 2-0 victors at the Pirelli Stadium when we last met back in January 2024.

The Addicks will be sporting their grey third kit...

Here we go...🤞

Luke Berry and Gassan Ahadme return to the starting line-up for tonight's game at Burton Albion.

The duo replace the suspended Greg Docherty and Thierry Small, who reverts to the bench.

It means the Addicks may line-up in a 4-3-3 with Rarmani Edmonds-Green, Alex Mitchell, Macaulay Gillesphey and Josh Edwards in a back four in front of Ashley Maynard-Brewer.

Berry is likely to be joined in midfield by Conor Coventry and Karoy Anderson, behind a front three of skipper Matty Godden, Miles Leaburn and former Brewer Ahadme.

Small is joined on the bench by Tommy Reid, Josh Laqeretabua, Terry Taylor, Allan Campbell, Tyreece Campbell and Danny Hylton.

Charlton: Maynard-Brewer; Edmonds-Green, Mitchell, Gillesphey, Edwards; Coventry, Anderson, Berry; Godden (c), Leaburn, Ahadme

Subs: Reid, Laqeretabua, Small, Taylor, A.Campbell, T.Campbell, Hylton

  • The grey third kit is as dull as our play. 🥸
  • Looks like a 4box2 or 4diamond2 with Godden in the 10
  • He's really going for it. Boom or bust !
  • Expecting Gods to get more chances with Berry starting.
  • Looks like a narrow 433

Unless its a narrow 4-3-3 with Godden and Leaburn either side of Ahadme.
  • 433? 442 diamond? Leaburn, Ahadme and godden? Looks like we are going for it…

What is the biggest surprise is that Laqueretabua is involved here, and Asiimwe isnt injured and playing in the London Senior Cup.

Given the experiences of both players, Nathan is at the stage where he should surely be ahead - All credit to Josh though if he's there on merit in the Manager's opinion

No idea how that team will be lining up. Lots of players in not their preferred positions and stinks of a manger reaching for a solution rather than really understanding the problem and what the solution needs to be.

I don't want to be negative, but it doesn't fill me with hope, I have to be honest.
  • Wow.  Very interesting lineup.

I'm wondering if Jones thinks it's shit or bust for him tonight & just decided to go for it.
  • Going 433?

Three strikers and Berry feels like he's been told win or you're sacked as Holden was v Oxford.
  • We have only scored one more goal than Burton but they concede for fun......hoping we have a plan to exploit their weaknesses with the 3 up top (it looks like a 3)
  • Taylor only makes it to the bench! Unbelievable, he should be starting again! What on earth did he do wrong when he last played?
He at least can take decent set-pieces!!
And not much else sadly. Too lightweight for a defensive mid and not enough speed or creativity to be further forward

Strikers certainly need to show up tonight, regardless of the fact that we've reverted to our defensive fragilities

We've also started creating a bit more, and certainly created more than enough to come away from Exeter / Huddersfield with one goal and zero points.
  • 4 3 3 .. Jones reverts to try anything once, though it COULD be the best formation for our current available players, except (there always is) who is there to supply crosses for three essentially central strikers ?

  • 4-3-3 or 4-1-2-1-2? I think Coventry and Anderson are going to have to do a lot of work in midfield, as Berry's not really struck me as a putting himself about a lot type of player so far. Also, what are the odds on their keeper getting injured and Isted coming on and playing a blinder?

That was blatant. He was never going to start Taylor. Why is baffling really.
  • Don't love that. Don't like Gillesphey in a central two, don't like REG as RB. If it's three up front then that's quite fun and we'd have some width but not all that much. It would be something though and we'd be able to bring TC on later. It could well be a diamond with Godden at the tip which would certainly be a choice. I don't really care what it is as long as it encourages the players to actually get their foot on the ball and pass it round instead of just lumping it into hell or turning it over every couple of seconds.
  • If I’ve ever seen a team that suggest lump it forward asap this is it
Yep, not much in midfield, 3 up top.

Screams long balls from Gillesphey and hoping Godden or Berry gets on the end of a knockdown or second ball.
  • Whatever the formation can’t say it isn’t attacking
  • Still got memories of that shocking Chris Gunter performance when we played Burton not too long ago!!
