Methven chucks Nathan Jones under the bus

There is a video on the other site in which Methven says that Alfie May was only sold because Nathan Jones wanted to change the style of play and Charlton supporters aren’t apparently very happy about it ( no shit Sherlock )
I know that it’s difficult to take a counter view to the manager but I hope Scott, at least, questioned whether it would be possible to replace the League 1’s leading scorer ?
We go round in circles on this but what on earth does Andy Scott do as technical director ?

However, Methven has used this as another deflection tactic from his two mates.
I said the other day and I will again, things like this are maybe why the Jamaican does not get a look in.4 -
The video in question is a few months old.0

Many months old, and actually says that the manager ‘wanted to deploy the funds elsewhere in the Team’ rather than to change the style1

Not only has he made the attack worse he has made the midfield worse as well. Could say we strengthened at the back with Mitchell & Edwards but overall I think we are worse now than we were at the end of last season.9 -
Just goes to show if you don’t want to see regurgitated old news , stick with CL .7

So Methven is open about the decisions made and that's, "Chucking Nathan Jones under the bus" ?
What's next? "They don't tell us fans anything".8 -

He was right (I doubt that May would make much of a difference in this team) but the problem is the players acquired to effect Jones’s “style” - principally Ahadme and his midfield trio - aren’t cutting the mustard.
Of course the Board is ultimately responsible for everything but they gave Jones more autonomy than any recent manager (on most occasions in fact they were “First Team Coach”) of CAFC.
We’ll gauge in the January window whether the Board retains confidence in Jones and whether the shareholders retain confidence in the Board.
I hope at least the latter holds because if these owners lose interest we’re potentially back in the real shit of being “in play” for real shysters.16 -

Cockroaches are cool creatures of nature getting on with it and doing their own thing, they don’t deserve to be associated with Methven.9

Where is the autonomy without the funding? Where is the funding beyond the May sale?
The issue isn’t about 1 player. It is about a squad delivering the worst League position in our history! Scott brought in 9 players in January ousting Blackett-Taylor and Dobson before Jones was in the building. Is Jones accountable for them too? What you don’t think Jones picks Dobson over Coventry & Taylor every day of the week and twice on Sunday?
How come after months of preparation the final 8 weeks of thé window saw the addition of only A.Campbell (on loan where Luton is carrying the bulk of his salary) and Dixon, a development prospect from Jamaica. IIRC Potts, Hylton ( both veterans on short term contracts) Reid were all signed after the window shut. We didn’t even get to keep Bishop.
Could be it after the May funds the coffers were empty?
Ironically if you look at May’s participation at Birmingham it is almost exactly how Jones would have used him - as an impact player. Jones loves his impact players. Not sure Alfie would have been too pleased. Not sure he is ecstatic now but he has better players to work with and a rather nice pay cheque to compensate.
Does Jones have questions to answer? Of course but this sort of corporate politics speaks to a dysfunctional executive very much contributing to what we are seeing today.This executive has delivered a business plan for sanction or information in;
- December 2022 to terminate Garner recruit Holden
- January 2023 to bring in 5 loan players who I’m not sure still participate in the EFL
- July 2023 to bring in 12 additions
- September 2023 to terminate Holden and recruit Appleton
- January 2024 to bring in 9 new additions
- February 2024 to terminate Appleton and recruit Jones
- July 2024 to bring in 11 new additions
How’s it going? What it’s all on the last guy in? Don’t think so.19 -

It's a miracle we even get 11 people out on the pitch in Charlton shirts in time for kick off.3 -

Methven only here to make a few bob. Typical Con Man. Just ask the Sunderland supporters. Just a back stabber, trying to save his own fat number! Charlton has been a nice little earner for him.5

Yet another mob in charge of Charlton that couldn't run a bath.
Anyone coming out of this summer, after a couple of "on paper" good signings but the departure of "The Golden Boot" and also a player who sweated blood for us in a terrible, terrible team, thinking it would be otherwise than this shambles, well I don't know!!!3 -

Madness.
For me it was clear by the start of August when, after letting CBT, Dobson & May leave, that we hadn't strengthened in those areas. Add into the mix the fact we hadn't replaced losing JRS and we started this season with no width & no playmaker.
This is only the 2nd season in 22 years that I haven't bought a season ticket and have only been to 4 home games so far. Writing was on the wall but so many cant read.6 -
Trivial story but in my view a telling one. I bought a programme last Tuesday. It was £3.50 as advertised on a piece of cardboard. Recent programmes have been £4, following a mid-season increase.I commented to the seller that it had changed. Yes, they said, but it was going to be £4 and that’s what’s printed on it. But someone decided this afternoon to change the price back to £3.50.
The price is neither here nor there, but you do wonder what kind of process is going on internally that they are changing it by 50p on the day of the game. It would make no conceivable difference to sales. It just says to me that someone is making arbitrary and pointless decisions because they can, without a clue what they are doing. As for the Kevin Nolan half-time applause, WTF?16 -

As part of the litany of SE7 events IIRC was it not in the January we were also apprised of the Rodwell 8+8+8 plan. Now I am, like most, hugely proud of the Academy, but the entire industry has been searching for the holy grail of “the football factory” since the days of the “Busby babes”.
It ain’t that easy and most palpably not as a part of a cost cutting exercise in League 1.
Trying to force feed young talent into a senior infrastructure horribly unfit for purpose is hardly likely to be blessed with the best of outcomes. There are times I even hanker for a Pearce or a Pratley or even an ever unfit Wickham to evidence a bit of know how, a bit of in game management, a bit of leadership.
The frustration is beginning to take an increasingly unpleasant toll on everyone.
Infrastructure first please.
Managed and scaled Pipeline Masterplan second - thank you.
Beyond sadly a young Leaburn, struggling to recover from a year out, do any of the other 7 yet look any more than bit part players ill suited for a League 1 promotion campaign. How many have struggled with injuries in adapting to the senior game?
Logically how many of the finite 460 outfield League starts are we to “write off” to the “exposure to senior football” programme? Does not “exposure to senior football” encapsulate so well these talented young men don’t yet really know their jobs.
Thats a third of the senior outfield playing squad.
I am not looking to give Jones a “get out of jail free” card. He has to be held accountable for some horribly turgid performances but whatever the reality it looks like Scott, now Scott & Rodwell are constructing one team/ squad while Jones is largely intent on playing another. One script please Mr Carter.8
