Idea for admin- could we have an idiots corner where this could go along with the arla milk thread? It's both entertaining and educational and would be a shame to lose a thread like this.8

By patronising and mocking and ridiculing is exactly how brexit happened and why Trump stormed the election.
Respectfully arguing points and articulating why approaches/ view points may be flawed is much healthier and more productive.
Being scornful of people isn't the way forward and just causes people to feel alienated and more entrenched in their views.
James OBrien has made a career out of it in the last few years on LBC to ensure he gets an endless stream of gotcha moments with callers failing to articlate any viewpoint not considered to be wholly in line with his or the mainstream.
Many of the issues that cause people to feel like this are rooted in very real concerns and not driven by racism, islamophobia or bigotry. Of course racist bigots do exploit those concerns of people for ulterior motives but mocking/ shutting those with concerns instead of civilly debating issues causes resentment and entrenchment of views.
It's literally what has happened poilitically in the UK and US in the last 10 years in that respect and why we now live in such a divisive society where people seem unwilling or unable to debate opposing viewpoints civilly and constructively but revert to name calling/ scorn pouring.34 - Sponsored links:

Henry Irving said:Who are the organisers you talk of?
What are these Christian traditions? Are we going back to before the reformation? Will Christmas be banned again?
As as non-Christian would I have to leave the UK or convert?
How vague is the wording and is it just a stalking horse for far-right populism and Muslim bashing?
How long will this thread stay open?2 -
