Boxing Day fixtures are always a welcome occurrence over the holidays, particularly this season on the back of Charlton’s emphatic 5-0 victory over Northampton Town. An unchanged Charlton starting eleven picked up exactly where they left off against Northampton, pressing and pressuring from the off. It was Tyreece Campbell bursting down the right side and battling against the defender to poke home the opening goal on just thirty seconds! And the Addicks home faithful didn’t have to wait too much longer for the second. On twenty minutes, Tyreece Campbell pressured the keeper who failed to get a hand on a corner that swung into the box. Miles Leaburn kept above everyone to nod it home. Cambridge weren’t effective at all and were lucky to not concede more.
Cambridge made changes to start the second half to good effect and were soon back in it. On 51 minutes, Kachunga prodded home from close range from a Cambridge counterattack that the Addicks should have done much better to blunt when it started back up the pitch. However, that moment of complacency provided Cambridge with a foothold and for the next ten minutes they threatened to equalise. Charlton were able to see off the pressure and were soon back in the ascendancy. Two goals were enough in the end to see all three points staying in SE 7.
Unfortunate not to keep another clean sheet but the points are what counts the most. Charlton are playing much more effective football that’s much easier on the eye.

Amazing start but didnt capitalise. Not expecting another 5-0 but being 2 nil up after 15 mins we shouldn't be holding on for the last 30 mins.
Should have freshened it up much much earlier. I know we have another game in 3 days time but so do all the other teams.
3 points but didnt go anywhere in the table & still 4 points off the play offs. 6th is a pipe dream tbh.2 -
Great to get back to back wins over Christmas, but I'm a long way from being convinced we've turned a corner. Still look very poor at times, and Cambridge got in and around us a bit too easily.
Thought Small had a good game but no one else really stood out for me. Reyes the worst keeper I've seen in a long time7 -
Thought the strongest we looked was after Cambridge scored, before then we were very average without getting out of 1st gear. Not a vintage game, but I didn’t feel worried at all after we went 2-0, which is something.
Wycombe going to offer a very different challenge, but one that historically we seem to have stepped up to.
Hopefully we can keep the momentum going.9 -

First half was excellent, second half we never reacted to their sub and tweaks at half time and made life harder than it really should have been.
Thought TC and Leaburn showed real potential as a front pair and Small was excellent for someone playing on the wrong side. Will be a nice problem for NJ to have with Ramsay back to compete with Small and Edwards for the 2 fullback slots.

And last couple of years we'd have lost.4 -
One point ahead of where we were last season after 21 games. This time last season our 22nd game was the 1-0 defeat at Orient which started a run of 8 defeats in 10.
Seven and eighteen points behind our promotion seasons in 18/19 and 11/12 respectively.11 - Sponsored links:

It was a must-win and we won. Compared to most of the last couple of seasons I'll take that.19

Very encouraging I’d say…..played it around on the deck to nice effect for the most part……let’s stick with that tactic.
Defence was very solid I thought, with Jones yet again a stand out performer.

When we sacked Appleton we had 30 points from 28 games.
We have 30 points from 21 games this season.21 -
Consecutive wins is obviously very welcome but ultimately I’m left feeling a bit flat at the end of that. 2-1 at home to a terrible team doesn’t fill me with hope for the next few games. I don’t think Wycombe will be too concerned at the prospect of playing us.2

I think we can probably say that based on that, no corners have yet been fully turned... but we're in the right lane and there's definitely good things to take from it.
A baffling inability to remain solid for the entire 90 minutes remains a flaw, there's an argument that the Cambridge subs did us a favour too, but we did hold out and two goals and three points gives optimism to at least an extent.6 -

But that is ‘unacceptable’.
I can see why Jones says the expectations of Charlton fans takes big characters to deal with. I’d bloody hate it personally if that’s the sort of feedback I was getting after today.I think looking at where Peterborough and Rotherham are, shows that although how crap this league is - no one has a divine right just to win games (unless your Birmingham and spend 100 billion).27 -
When you go 2-0 up early against a relegation candidate you are kind of expecting to put them to the sword, but unfortunately the opposite happened and we let them become competitive and had to grind out a win.8 points gained from a possible 12 points has allowed 5th & 6th place to become a possibility again. Still plenty of football to be played and the hope that we finally have a good January transfer window.2

We did enough to scrape over the line, not particularly pretty but 3 points and move on.1
