Nathan Jones: “Look…”

Not the biggest issue to have this season, and I don’t know why it irritates me so much, but NJ starting every sentence in any interview with “Look…” is really starting to grate.
Why does he do it? It’s something that seemed to start with South African and Australian cricketers and rugby players a few years ago and then spread to English cricketers, then other sports over here.

Is it a psychological trick or something? An attempt to sound authoritative? (Some people seem to use “Listen…” instead by the way). Whatever the reason, it’s fucking annoying and I wish he’d stop it.
Now that’s off my chest, I can relax…😎
PS Who’ll post the first response starting with “Look…”?

My money’s on Mehmet or FA. 😂

is it better to "look out" or "chill out"?1

So, look, listen.
That's the trifecta.3 -
Stop. Look. Listen. Think!4

I had very much picked up on this and also does my head in
as does a lot of what he says
“that’s why the level is the level” the other day particularly ground my gears1 - Sponsored links:

My beef is the majority of the younger generation starting every answer to a question with "So". I prefer "Look" to that!6

It's just the way he speaks. Lots of people do this or have different mannerisms or inflections.
I doubt you are perfect with the way you speak either.16 -
I totally agree about this and the way some Managers use that same word to start a sentence. I heard that the real reason Wayne Rooney for the sack was because the Board got fed up with his exhaustive utilisation of "existentially".7

I noticed 'Look', was the opening gambit of Aussie sportsmen for most of this century and now it has spread globally to South Africa and Mid-Glamorgan.
Nathan Jones is an interesting character who needs to be successful as his CV has two failures after Stoke and Southampton and that is a bad 'Look'.

Another trait of todays interviewee is to start a response to a question with the word "So", that is annoying as well.
I can almost accept the word "Look" as a first response as it can direct you in a specific direction, ie answering a direct question, whereas "So" would be referring back to a previous situation or question, total wrong response to a question...imo.
In short "Look" is ok as I see it...but each to their own.

It’s intensely annoying. Gerrard used to start every interview answer with “listen”. I always wanted an interviewer to say “I’m effing listening to twat. That’s why I’m standing in front of you asking effing questions.5

I think we should be forgiving when people are speaking English as a foreign language.11

Perhaps he could learn from Curbs.3
-
Could be worse... Could start with "Now then, now then"2

Like Curbs says “etc etc” a lot! Jesus we are a mardy bunch 😂2

Tidy.2

"Look" was started by Blair I thought.
The "So" when answering a question is newer and was started by politicians/other interviewees a few years back. Gives 'em a few more seconds to get the bollox (which inevitably follows) straight in their heads.2
