If we get a couple of reinforcements there is absolutely no reason why we can’t get in and win the play offs - this league is astoundingly shit. Orient played an 83 year old Darren Pratley and a useless Sean Clare in CM together last night & won 6-2 ffs.
Orient look as though they've done some shrewd business this window. The young lad they signed on a perm from Swansea scored at hattrick last night. Markanday also got on the score sheet.
Markandy I think will turn out to be a very good move from them , had a lot of promise at Spurs as youngster but has had a couple of average loans since then but he's clearly talented.
As we stand now after three wins, we have a great chance of making the play offs. If you look at early posts on this thread, some were suggesting Barnsley would be hard to catch! We can now look at Huddersfield as catchable.

whomever wins this years League One playoffs will be the worst team in the history of English football to get promoted. It could be us!

First time after a period of games where I've thought that we could just about manage it.
Obviously need to keep this form up for the rest of the season.
Actually, we don't. We have 21 points from the last 10 games or 2.1 pts per game. That'd be another 39 or 40 points at that rate over the rest of the season. 83 points would have us closer to 4th than 6th. We need to keep this going for a few more weeks to get fully back into those top 6 places, and then we can hopefully come off the gas a little and maintain our play-off spot for the rest of the year. I don't think we'll be able to maintain over 2 points per game for the rest of the season, so we need to make hay while the sun shines.
It’s not about just getting into the playoffs, it’s about winning them. For that having as much momentum as possible would be beneficial.
But are we anywhere near the level needed for the Championship? Surely just by getting to the playoffs or even just missing out demonstrates to the owners that we nearly have a squad for the Championship? And then hopefully they will see it is worth that extra investment, as so nearly there.
If we finished half way or lower, they might consider the investment needed just too much
If this squad was in the Championship we’d get battered. I like watching Championship games on TV and the thing you notice is how quick the pace is - I think we’d really, really struggle.
Now of course I think we’d invest if we were to get promoted, but beyond Lloyd Jones, Small and maybe Miles I’m not sure how many more of our current squad could be starters in the Championship if we want to survive.

From last season's promoted teams, Pompey and Derby (surprisingly) are near the bottom, but Oxford under Rowett are now midtable. If they can stay up, then it's not impossible to adapt.

Not being impossible doesn’t mean it’s likely to be possible!
Just one omen to look out for. Every year I have run a maraton (18,19, due to run London this year) Charlton have been in playoffs. Get your bets on now......

Jaiyesmi came off the bench for them, they are just a bunch of Charlton rejects
Lose or draw Saturday and it's unlikely I think - realistically we need to win most games left.
Just curious but why do you think that? Are you expecting every team in the top 8 to suddenly go on an orient like run til the end of the season? It seems unlikely.
We will need about 10 wins and maybe 3 or 4 draws most likely if its a higher than average scoring play off position this year (which i even doubt it will be). Obviously the more wins the better but unless we have aspirations of top 2 we definitely DON'T need to win every single week as nice as it would be and losing or drawing 1 game will not put top 6 beyond us with 19 games to go.

Sean Clare scored a cracking goal last night..
And? Aaron Henry scored an incredible volley against a championship side a few years back - doesn’t mean he’s a good footballer.
Only two teams lower in the home form table: Crawley and Burton. Can you put your finger on why you’re 22nd in the home table but 4th in the away table?

Are you making Willmore’s point for them? We have 19 games left, so winning 10 games would be winning “most” of our remaining matches.

I think the point is that we are too far away from the end of the season yet for any single result to really mean much (“lose or draw Saturday and it’s unlikely”). It’s losing 3 or 4 games in 5 that would kill our chances.
We lost at Rotherham and everyone was very keen to say no chance. Two games later and we’re actually closer than we were before that game kicked off.
We could be in the same position a week from Saturday if we lost to Blackpool but beat Stevenage and Peterborough.

Oh I’d agree with that. Beating Bristol Rovers last night doesn’t mean we’re definitely in, losing on Saturday doesn’t mean we’re definitely out. It’s just the nature of football forums that what you’ll often see post match is as much an emotional reaction to what people have just seen.

We still have Birmingham, Orient, Barnsley, Stockport, Huddersfield, Wycome and Wrexham to play.
That's 7 out of 18/19 games or whatever it is that I would consider very tough games, plus anyone can beat anyone in this league so none of the teams below us are easy games really - we may be on a good run of form at the minute but all it takes is an injury or two to the likes of someone like Jones, Small or TC and the whole dynamic might change again.
I know last night in the first half we created a lot but that felt like a rarity.

Take Birmingham out of it and that’s 6 games where we can take points off and close the gap to those above us. This team has shown they play well against bigger teams (unbeaten against Bolton, Birmingham, Stockport, Wrexham, Wycombe) and we beat Orient too. The teams against the bottom half are where we’ve found it toughest but that seems to be changing

Without bringing some creative players in I just don't see us keeping up with that pack, I think we will fall away sadly.

That wasn't how I had interpreted the comment I was responding to. I'd consider 10 wins of 19 as "about half" but that's just me.
Thanks for the explanation willmore it's interesting to see that side of it I think based on how we have played against the top teams compared to the lower mids this season and historically I'm actually more confident of us picking up points against Wrexham or Wycombe away than I am Blackpool or Stevenage to be honest.

Picked up 12 points from those 7 teams in the first half of the season. If we can do that again then that would leave us needing a likely 20 points from the remaining 12 games, with a lot of those at home against bottom half sides - certainly doable!
Is anyone ready for the possibility of it being in our own hands going into the last game of the season and we get turned over by Burton Albion and drop out of the playoff places yet? :-)

It's a big IF - I'm of the opinion it is completely doable but we'd need luck on our sides regarding other teams and we'd need to be very very consistent til the end of the season.

The teams around us aren't going to win every game, there's still 18/19 games to go.
Blackpool themselves, 6 points below us, will still think they can make the playoffs.
keep everyone (key players) fit and I genuinely think we'll make the playoffs
