We will struggle to make the top 2 but 6 points and a better goal difference of 13 on Bolton is looking good for the play-offs with 9 games to go. We would've to win at Wrexham and draw or win at Wycombe and that's look tough.
If I was manager I would convince the players that they can still get autos but as a fan getting 6 points back on Wrexham is a very tall order.
Fantastic results over the last 15 matches but it's a shame the injuries to Jones and Ramsey caused CAFC to be so mediocre over the first half of the season and we just didn't or couldn't use the width of the pitch.
I honestly think Stockport might do Wrexham next week. They are not all that.

I can see that, as much as they were a shithouse, horrible team I was impressed with Stockport.
Reckon we will draw with Wrexham and Huds and win the rest which i think will be enough for second
I had a browse on the main Wrexham forum this morning. Confirming the theory that most football fans are basically the same, there were a lot of fairly pessimistic posters on there and a lot predicting defeat against Stockport.
Like others have said I would just be aiming for top 4,I think Wycombe might fall away a bit, so for me playing them over two legs with second one at the Valley is best case in the play offs for me

There's surely only one target to aim for ...... just win the next game, collect 3 points. Rinse and repeat.

Agree. If we don't get 2nd, I'd rather Wrexham did, as I don't fancy playing them in the playoffs, or having them in League one next season if we don't get promoted. Wycombe are a busted flush.
I think we should be aiming for second. If we just fail, we will comfortably be in the play offs. We have seen how quickly we can chase teams down that were a few points above us to have learned surely.

I think we should just be aiming to win each game in turn and then see where we end up in the league table on the last day of the season. Let the others worry about us and the league table positions
Well of course but I think it is better to chase than look over your shoulder. I agree we should try to win every game, that goes without saying but teams will of course have an awareness of where they are and where they can get to.
This isn’t meant in anyway negative as I think we have a great chance at the automatic spot but I think if we fail it will be because we are not scoring enough. Our strikers are having a lean spell and if they can get their mojo back we have a fantastic chance.
I'm glad someone else said it.
Last 11 games:
Won 8 Drawn 2 Lost 1 (against the best team in the division and one that has conceded 23 goals all season) Average points per game: 2.36 For 18 Against 6 Scorers: Godden (4), Gillesphey (3), Small (2), Leaburn (1), Campbell (1), Anderson (1), Edwards (1), Berry (1), Ramsay (1), Jones (1), OGs (2)
It would be wonderful if we had someone who was banging in goals, week in, week out. But the point I keep trying to make is that having to rely on that one scorer makes it easier to stop us scoring as a team. Our two strikers (Leaburn and Godden) still have 5 goals but even ignoring the OGs, no less than TEN different players have scored for us in those 11 games.
If Leaburn or Godden had 30 goals between them at this stage of the season and they stopped scoring but no one else was getting them then we would be in real trouble. But it is the likes of Gillesphey at set pieces and Ramsay, Edwards and Jones making runs into the box and not being picked up because of a pre-occupation of the opposition watching the likes of Godden, Leaburn, Campbell and Small that makes us such a threat especially against tired legs and minds late on.
So we can now add Godden's two goals to the above and we have a striker with six goals in those 12 matches and another nine players contributing too. That sounds just about perfect to me.
But here's an interesting stat - 21 games without scoring more than two goals in a game. And that's not us. It's Wrexham, the team currently in an automatic promotion spot. It seems that both sides have a very similar modus operandi. The difference is that we have been doing it better than them over that period:
Wrexham:
Won 12 Drawn 4 Lost 5 Points 40 (1.91 per game) For 26 Against 17 GD +9
Charlton:
Won 13 Drawn 5 Lost 3 Points 44 (2.10 per game) For 32 Against 15 GD +17
If we allow the first three games of that period to drop off then our record becomes even more impressive:
Won 13 Drawn 3 Lost 2 Points 42 (2.33 per game) For 31 Against 13 GD +18
The inescapable fact is that, bar Birmingham, on current form, we are the team that no one wants to face. Hang on, though, let's look at what have Birmingham done in the last 18 games too:
Won 12 Drawn 5 Lost 1 Points 41 (2.28 per game) For 26 Against 9 GD +17
So, for the last 18 matches, we have been the best team in the division. In fact, we've scored six more goals than the runaway champions in that time. 30 goals a season strikers? Who needs them?
We can all find reasons as to why we might do things better but, in the real world, we are currently doing it better than any other team in the division. And probably the whole of the EFL too.

‘Awareness’ = stress, worry, focussing upon the wrong objective, unnecessary pressure. Winning games is all that matters now. Do that and everything else takes care of itself.
Change the title of the thread to “We made the playoffs! Can we make 2nd”
I think we will fall short as to do so we will have to beat Wrexham & Wycombe which I can’t see us doing unfortunately. If we do then it’s all looking good
In the form table for the past 5 games we are top. Over the past 10, 15, 20 & 25 games we are second in all, only to (obviously) Birmingham.
If we weren't so poor up to mid-December, losing to the likes of Exeter, Bristol Rovers, at home to Crawley, the 0-0 at home to Mansfield (all teams i'm confident we'd beat if we played them this week) then we'd probably be in 2nd, a few points clear of Wrexham.
Like others have said I would just be aiming for top 4,I think Wycombe might fall away a bit, so for me playing them over two legs with second one at the Valley is best case in the play offs for me

I fancy us against either, they would have been up there all season and to not get automatic promotion I think would see them fold.
With Wycombe now only 2 pts in front and a tough fixture list to come we may not necessarily need to beat them away if we're already above them. Wrexham however at present does look like a must-win and potential winner takes 2nd if we can close the gap by the time we play them.

I don't see your logic 🤔 Wrexham are already ahead of their 5 year plan. Wycombe are over achieving and league 1 is probably their level. Richard Kone will play in the Championship next season.
Some CL members said Wrexham would struggle in League 1; they were wrong. But it makes a change to be in contention as apparently I read on CL this was the worst squad in living memory 4 months ago !
Best if we take one game at a time like the gaffer said.

The logic is surely that they've been in and around 2nd/3rd all season (not sure if that's exactly true but it feels like it). They're now favourites to go up with Birmingham, so for them to miss out on automatic promotion might deflate them.
The main time any of this comes into play is when NJ is deciding whether to stick or twist in a game - shut up shop and get a draw with 10 to go at s tough away game might have been the answer in September but not if we are going for top 2 now - I’d go for it
IF we can beat Wycombe and Wrexham, I’d like to think that could see us pushing for automatic promotion. Although — and it’s a big IF — I wouldn’t mind another thrilling playoff rollercoaster ride. For months now, I’ve had a feeling it could be Charlton v Wrexham in the playoffs... who knows?
Does anyone know when tickets for Wrexham away will be released? And if Sky decides to televise it, when will we find out? I’m hoping to get to Wrexham away and then head north to catch up with friends — fingers crossed for a memorable run-in!
