    AI Overview
Yes, Imodium (loperamide) can prolong a stomach virus:
    • Explanation
Imodium is an over-the-counter antidiarrheal medication that can trap a stomach virus in your intestines and make an infection last longer. Diarrhea is your body's way of getting rid of toxins, so it's best to let it run its course.

Funnily enough, when I asked a doctor a couple of years back about using Imodium after a bout of Noro, he was ADAMENT to take it.

His very clear reasoning was that the runs with a stomach virus is like a runny nose with a cold. It isn’t (despite most people’s beliefs) your body getting rid of the virus. The virus makes your stomach generate too much fluid and it’s a symptom that you can treat. I remember clearly that he said you should treat it like taking a medicine to stop said runny nose.

Imodium is the most reliable over the counter medicine going IMO. As someone who suffers with IBS and has ever since Noro knocked my insides about - it is a fail safe that works EVERY time.

There is no need to sit there with the shits for two weeks.
I asked a GP this a few years back (you may recall those days when it was possible to see a GP).
I said am I better taking imodium or is it keeping the virus in and he didn't give me a clear answer, leaving me with the belief that he/she didn't know.
I took Imodium on the second day for a couple of days, didn’t really work as I was still having to run the loo. So not sure if it worked, I did try to eat a few bits, and drank plenty of water along with electrolytes.

I used to find kaolin and morphine pretty good, in the days before imodium came along. Very effective simple product but not so available for some reason- maybe because it settled in the bottle and the morphine was easily extracted to use separately?
  • After following a number of your advice I am pleased to announce after exactly one week I’ve have just had somewhat of a solid poo! Anusol is currently my best friend after this past week. Thanks again all

  • I was away for work in Georgia, the one Stalin was born in not the American former home of Jimmy Carter. I started getting the shits and took an Imodium. It worked, but the first shit a week later was like birthing a bowling ball.

Not sure that helps, but anyway. It works. Good luck.

Depending on age, it might be very wise NOT to trust a fart.

I had that back in 2018! Caught it from KFC in Sittingbourne on the way back from my sons karting race. Shits for 2 weeks which is why they knew it wasnt Noro.

Also confirmed via lab test. Nasty illness.

Particularly if lunch included any brown soup.

Like a lot of bacterial food poisoning, Campy's incubation period is usually 48-72 hours. It's very common for sufferers to blame it the last thing they ate, particularly from takeaways, whereas people are far more likely to get it at home.

Determining the source of an outbreak is why some diseases are reportable.

It's not impossible of course but statistically, you more than likely gave it to yourself, rather than KFC did.

Stop washing raw chickens in the sink people...

Me and 3 others all ate there after the race (the team owner and another parent)..... all 3 of us came down with it within 24 hours of one another.
