MATCH THREAD : Bolton Wanderers V Charlton Athletic : Tuesday 21st January 2025 : KO 19:45

So tonight we are on the third in a trilogy of away northern games with a trip to the "Toughsheet Community Stadium",  this time  Bolton Wanderers stand in our way, and we must be looking forward to getting back home after the previous two matches, "We need to bounce back" was a quote from our captain Docherty, that is a given after Saturday's debacle.
Sounds like this is a game too early to see a return of Ramsay, according to Nathan he expects him back in the mix by the end of the month..
Ian Evatt’s side currently sit ninth in the table, three points adrift of the play-off places and four points ahead of us having played a game more.

We've met on 98 previous occasions, winning 30, Bolton 47 and the remaining 21 meetings producing draws, Greg Docherty and Matty Godden were both on the scoresheet in the reverse fixture when we ran out 2-0 victors in August 2024, back when we had that good start to the season, seems a long time ago now.

Yellow kit again tonight, so here we go...

Team up

The Addicks are once again unchanged for this evening’s game against Bolton Wanderers.

It will be the sixth league game in a row that Nathan Jones has named an unchanged starting XI - with the Addicks recording three wins, a draw and a defeat in those five previous games..

Once again Alex Mitchell, Lloyd Jones and Macaulay Gillesphey start in a back three in front of goalkeeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer.

Thierry Small and Josh Edwards will operate again as wing-backs with Luke Berry, Conor Coventry and skipper Greg Docherty playing in a midfield three, behind a front two of Miles Leaburn and Tyreece Campbell.

The Addicks' bench is once again made up of Will Mannion, Rarmani Edmonds-Green, Karoy Anderson, Allan Campbell, Chuks Aneke, Matty Godden and Daniel Kanu.

Charlton: Maynard-Brewer; A.Mitchell, Jones, Gillesphey; Small, Coventry, Berry, Docherty (c), Edwards; Leaburn, T.Campbell

Subs: Mannion, Edmonds-Green, Anderson, A.Campbell, Aneke, Godden, Kanu

  • Surprised to see no changes
  • Really surprised to see no changes, chance for them to prove themselves after Saturday
  • A chance for them to put it right then.
  • Surprised that Nathan Baxter isn't starting for Bolton, no Ricardo Santos again either...

I thought they missed those two when we faced them at the Reebok last season, so hopefully can make them rue their absence again

  • Baxter not in goal for them 👀
  • I think we should have dropped Mitchell tbh he's has 2 shockers in a row.
  • As I wrote on the other thread, the scheduling of this fixture isn't ideal. Bolton after playing at home on Saturday, are at home again, whereas end up with 2 consecutive long distance away games (3 including the cup game).
That leaves little training time between our 2 games, so I'm not totally surprised there haven't been many or indeed any changes.

Southwood has kept one clean sheet in the appearances he's made this season...
  • An unusual word used on the OS for this match ...

" Watch Bolton BOUT live on Charlton TV ".

Or is it just me ?
  • I’d be playing Anderson. I know his on the ball quality is lacking but against a fragile team with fans on their back having someone running at them like a nutter seems like an easy win

I thought last Saturday's team was about the best we could put out & we got hammered. Same team.....same result ??
  • Surely some of these boys need a rest, hoping we don't see another tired performance
  • Anywhere to watch this?
  • Glad there's no knee-jerk changes in response to one bad performance at the end of a good run. Defence had a real off-day on Saturday but it's been the best department of our team all season so they can be allowed an occasional dip. I still thought some of our attacking play carried more threat on Saturday than in some of those dreadful October and November performances so if that happens again and the defence is back to its normal standard it should be a much closer game tonight. They do need to put in a good performance to show that Saturday was a blip on what has otherwise been a generally upward curve since Northampton.

He was on the bench on Saturday as well. Baxter has been dropped for a couple of games recently.

  • I see Nathan Baxter is on the Bolton bench. Always thought the he was a decent keeper but it appears he has become one of the scapegoats for their recent run of form.
  • unchanged, gives them a chance to show that championship pedigree, surprised mitchell not dropped, needs a reset

Looks like Collins as a striker , surprised no Adeboyejo from the start as he always causes chaos against us.
