  • Try insuring a car for an 18yo.

    That'll really blow your beans!!

Black box should keep it down, within reason, but on average somewhere in the £1300-2k range.

Just had my renewal quote it is about 11% less than last year, when it went up by 30%.
Martin Lewis (Money saving expert) advice is still to shop around to get the best possible price.

  • Martin Lewis advises that car insurance premiums are down 16% this year.
Use comparison sites and the cheapest prices available are 26 days before your renewal date.

Got quotes yesterday to see what impact my recently fitted ICD would have on my premium. Last year was £263 fully comp, this year quoted as £201 on exactly the same basis with the same insurer (Tesco). ICD made no difference to the premium either way, happily.
It's worth getting quotes with your spouse included even if he/she never drives the car - adding Mrs Idle knocked about twenty quid off the premium when i first added her on. She never drives my car but it's a useful thing to have just in case. And a mate with whom I do the odd european road trip had his premium fall about £40 when he added me to his insurance. But then he's a reckless young 50 year old, so only to be expected when a sensible, grown up driver is added...
