So, after what was a bit of a toughie last week at Birmingham resulting in that close 1-0 defeat, today we get back home and welcome Exeter City to The Valley, a team that "on paper" ( I love that terminology🤦♂️), where we should be more than capable of getting another much needed three points on the board.
Exeter currently sit in 17th spot with 35 points, having just one win in their last nine games, and that was last week in the 0-1 win at bottom club Cambridge Utd.
We've met on 37 previous occasions, winning18, Exeter 12, and the remaining 7 meetings ending all square, Exeter ran out 1-0 victors in the reverse fixture at St James Park back in November last year, so yet another reason to get this win today.
Nathan has confirmed in his pre-match conference that AMB will miss out this weekend with a groin injury he sustained at Birmingham, which resulted in him missing the second half there, otherwise a fully fit squad to choose from yet again.
Anyway, here we go
Teams news...
Will Mannion and Karoy Anderson will both start this afternoon’s game against Exeter City at The Valley, as Nathan Jones makes two changes to his side.
The duo replace Ashley Maynard-Brewer, who misses out with a groin injury, and Greg Docherty, who has been ill this week.
The Addicks will once again line up with Kayne Ramsay, Lloyd Jones, wearing the captain’s armband, and Macaulay Gillesphey in a back three in front of the returning Mannion.
Thierry Small and Josh Edwards will operate as wing-backs with Anderson joining Conor Coventry and Luke Berry in midfield, behind a front two of Matty Godden and Tyreece Campbell.
Tommy Reid, Tom McIntyre and Tennai Watson return to the bench alongside Alex Gilbert, Miles Leaburn, Chuks Aneke and Daniel Kanu.
Charlton: Mannion; Ramsay, Jones (c), Gillesphey; Small, Berry, Coventry, Anderson, Edwards; Godden, T.Campbell
Subs: Reid, McIntyre, Watson, Gilbert, Leaburn, Aneke, Kanu
Comments
Illness going around?
Could be argued Watson and McIntyre gives us better balance as they cover more positions between them than Mitchell.
How ropey does that pitch look?
He's competing with Berry, and Campbell / Small
And would prefer more creativity / pace on the bench rather than 3 strikers (one of whom we use as a battering ram).
Jones the boss (although with his usual touchline antics you could just as easily invoke his inner 'Ivor the Engine' and call him Jones the Steam)
Jones the red (just in case Exeter's Jones crops up in defence)
The other Jones
Reading 0-0 Birmingham
Rotherham 0-1 Barnsley
Now got Hell's Bells by AC/DC.
What's up next home game: Cradle Of Filth or Emperor?
