MATCH THREAD : Charlton Athletic V Barnsley : Tuesday 4th March 2025 : KO 19:45

Good evening folks..
So, tonight Barnsley roll into town and an encounter under the lights at The Valley...
After the mad but magnificent finish and result on Saturday at Leyton Orient, we will need to be on our game tonight as Barnsley are yet another team doing well currently with three victories in their last six league outings, and sit 10th in the table, four points behind the Addicks having played a game more than us, however, I feel that we will be too strong tonight, and expect us to finish with another three points on the board that will help to cement our place in the top six, we've opened up a chink of daylight between us and seventh place, but we need to enlarge that gap still more, and not take our foot off the pedal now...

Goalkeeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer is the Addicks' only absentee tonight with a groin injury sustained against Birmingham City, so another fully fit squad to choose from apart from that

We've gone toe-to-toe on 57 previous occasions, winning 22, the Tykes 18 and the remaining 17 encounters ending in draws, the reverse fixture resulted in a 2-2 draw at Oakwell back in October 2024, with Luke Berry bagging a brace...

Here we go..

Team news...

Charlton captain Greg Docherty will start tonight's game against Barnsley as Nathan Jones makes one change to the side that secured a dramatic three points at Leyton Orient last weekend.

Docherty comes in for academy graduate Karoy Anderson, who moves to the bench.

Saturday’s match-winner Kayne Ramsay starts in a back three alongside Lloyd Jones and Macaulay Gillesphey, playing in front of Will Mannion.

Thierry Small and Josh Edwards again operate as wing-backs with Conor Coventry and Luke Berry joining skipper Docherty in a midfield three.

Matty Godden and Tyreece Campbell once again start in a front two.

Anderson is joined on the bench by Tommy Reid, Tennai Watson, Tom McIntyre, Alex Gilbert, Chuks Aneke and Miles Leaburn.

Charlton: Mannion; Ramsay, Jones, Gillesphey; Small, Coventry, Berry, Docherty (c), Edwards; Godden, Campbell

Subs: Reid, McIntyre, Watson, Anderson, Gilbert, Leaburn, Aneke

     Not unchanged. Good
  • Unchanged. Good
Docherty starts ahead of Anderson compared to Saturday
  • What I expected. Just Doc for Anderson. Come on you reds.
  • Unchanged. Good
Docherty in for Anderson, so not unchanged.
  • Big test tonight after the effort put into Saturday hopefully the lads have the adrenaline flowing and we blow them away in the first half. A few people have mentioned they are a bit slow at the back hopefully TC and Small tear them a new one
  • Our bench always looks so impressive, any one of those could expect a staring berth, we really are on a good run...
All the bench has 'a staring berth'
  • Our bench always looks so impressive, any one of those could expect a staring berth, we really are on a good run...
Not Reid, and certainly not Aneke as he wouldn’t make it to half time.

Line-Up for tonight, compared with the line-ups in October

Red = Started | Blue = On the Bench (Of those only Docherty didnt get any minute)

  • Neither surprised or unsurprised with that line up

  • One or two seats left to fill ...

"Where are you?! Let's be having you! Come on!"
  • In Bartrams, reasonably busy but not at Saturday level, hoping a few more people can pull themselves away from Sky and support the team.
  • 2-0 charlton, coyr!
