MANNION: 8 made good saves look routine. Came out and claimed when he could.
RAMSAY: 8 JONES: 7.5 not giving anyone in defence less after a shut out against a high scoring side. GILLESPHEY: 8 when did he become a FK specialist? Crucial goal. SMALL: 7.5 had his back on toast 1st half and forced a change. COVENTRY: 8 BERRY: 7 such a clever player DOCHERTY: 6 nice to see our captain back. EDWARDS: 7.5 so secure it’s easy to forget how good he is. GODDEN: 7 CAMPBELL: 9 MOM. Fantastic in and out of possession. Took 2,3 and 4 to stop him. Referee: 7
MANNION: - 7 One decent save in the first half, then some good catches, and one decent punch. Exudes confidence. Nice to see a 'keeper doing the tunnel jump, too!
RAMSAY: - 7 Another assured display. He never looks like he's going to lose the ball.
JONES: - 8 The rock on which the team is built around.
GILLESPHEY: - 8 Another solid display, and another winner!
SMALL: - 6.5 Pace to burn, but decision making still needs a lot to be desired.
COVENTRY: - 7.5 If Jones is the rock, then Conor is the heart. Hard to imagine anyone replacing his work rate and intelligence. Great shot, that deserved a goal.
BERRY: - 6 Another hard working player, that is important in our high press. A few decent corners, which were to no avail against the man-mountain Barnsley defenders. I'm sure that was the reason he was replaced by McIntyre rather than Gilbert. No point hitting in great corners, if they're just being gobbled up by the defence!
DOCHERTY: - 6.5 Was fairly anonymous in the first half, but instrumental in our improved 2nd half showing, by playing farther forward, and joining in on the forward press.
EDWARDS: - 7 Another solid performance by the unsung hero of our defence.
GODDEN: - 8 Love the man. Constant harrying and chasing down in a game where, as a footballer, was living off scraps. Instrumental in forcing Barnsley to go long, where their passes were gobbled up by the rock named Jones.
CAMPBELL: 8 (Motm) A constant threat. Our out ball when under pressure. Took on 2, 3, 4, men sometimes but the ball always stuck, allowing the rest of the team to reset. Won the free kick that led to the goal. Left the pitch gingerly at half time, which was a concern, but stuck manfully to his task. And that's how I think of him now. He's no longer a kid who's come through our academy, he's now MAN playing in a team of men...
MANNION: 6.5 - Tidy, but slow distribution RAMSAY: 7 - Some good play JONES: 7 - Dominant GILLESPHEY: 7.5 (MoM) - Excellent game defensively and got the goal too SMALL: 5.5 - Seemed tired COVENTRY: 7 - Won the ball back so many times BERRY: 5 - Tried hard but seemed tired DOCHERTY: 7 - Good game EDWARDS: 7.5 - Had a decent game GODDEN: 6 - -Tried but tired CAMPBELL: 6.5 - Was tired but saw lots of the ball and kept going Referee: 7 - Was OK, barring the injured goalie fiasco where the bench called for him to go down three times. If I could hear it and see it, so could the lino and fourth. Should have ignored him.
MANNION: 7 - only forced into one meaningful save but commanded his box well. Settled into the position well and hope he stays fit, with young Reid our only back up at present. RAMSAY: 7 - an outstanding one-on-one defender and can really drive with the ball when in possession JONES: 8 - another imperious display. An outstanding leader and organiser at the back. Extending his contract in January was a pivotal moment in our season. GILLESPHEY: 8 - defended well, played a lovely chipped ball through for Berry’s chance in the first half and stuck another one in the onion bag. Another good night’s work SMALL: 6.5 - a quieter game, particularly in the second half, but his athleticism and pace make a threat to any team COVENTRY: 7.5 - reads the game exceptionally well and has a phenomenal level of fitness. An example was when he tracked a runner very late in the game following a potentially dangerous Barnsley break and got the ball safely into the East Stand. His rasping second half shot from outside the box drew a good, full-length save from the keeper. Let’s hope he can somehow avoid a booking in the next 3 games. BERRY: 5 - got in some good positions but couldn’t make the most of them. Looked a bit knackered and off the pace at times DOCHERTY: 6 - was invisible in the first half where Barnsley controlled midfield but, like the rest of the team, picked up in the second EDWARDS: 7 - another fast and robust performance. What a good signing he’s proved GODDEN: 6.5 - didn’t see much of the ball but used his experience and know-how to try and link up the play. CAMPBELL: 8 - our principal threat on the night. At times, Barnsley had two, or even 3, players around him. Let’s hope he’s ok for Saturday and that we can keep him fit Referee: 6 - didn’t annoy me as much as some of his counterparts. The game was played in a good spirit. For some reason, I expect Saturday to be a more tense and aggressive affair, so I hope we have a decent ref.
MANNION: 7 - Have my doubts over him but he played well last night. Best commanding performance I've seen from him. RAMSAY: 7.5 - Proper Ramsay performance that. JONES: 8 - All been said already. Superb. GILLESPHEY: 7.5 - Very solid with a couple of dodgy touches to give away unnecessary throw ins. Very clever free kick and has improved massively as the season has gone on. SMALL: 6 - Not at his best. Still very dangerous. COVENTRY: 7.5 - Game suited him. They've got the second best midfield in the division and they barely got a sniff. BERRY: 6 - Looked knackered. I'd start Gilbert Saturday. DOCHERTY: 7 - Battled very well. Left the midfield a little open at times. EDWARDS: 7 - Decent. Silly yellow first half but continued to take the piss second half so didn't really matter. GODDEN: 7 - Didn't get a lot of in front of goal but won loads of headers. CAMPBELL: 7 - Excellent work to win the freekick. Another one who looked knackered, would've bought him off 10 minutes earlier. Referee: 6 - Think we had a few more fouls in there that should've been given but that's being picky. Decent enough.
GILLESPHEY: 9 i said to my son, it's amazing what a good manager and form can do for a player. Was absolutely outstanding and I hang my head in shame for the abuse I gave him based on the last 2 months form.
SMALL: 7
COVENTRY: 8
BERRY: 7.5
DOCHERTY: 8
EDWARDS: 7.5
GODDEN: 7
CAMPBELL: 7 5 just never stops, similar to MG, look what the right manager and support is getting from him week in week out.
MANNION: 7 - Gives off private school sixth form rugby energy. Did his job well RAMSAY: 7.5 - Unbeatable as usual, could have done with driving the ball a bit more as they had Small covered as the game went on JONES: 8 - All the headers minus the one he decided to give them a chance at. Stopped any loose balls dropping for their danger men GILLESPHEY: 8.5 - Daft goal but the technique on it was good. Defended very well especially as Edwards had a bit of an erratic angry one at times SMALL: 6 - Started dangerously but disappeared into his shell once they got hold of him. Such a dim footballer at times too, kept trying to run to the goal line when he was about half an inch from it and being surprised when he ran the ball out of play COVENTRY: 8 - Don't think he gave the ball away once and picked up anything loose against a Barnsley midfield filled with good players BERRY: 6.5 - Had two good chances he didn't take but he's always there in the right spaces. Worked hard DOCHERTY: 7.5 - Sacrifices playing football to follow people around but it stops us losing the midfield and it's not an easy job he does even if it's not eye-catching EDWARDS: 6.5 - Generally good but a bit mad at times as well GODDEN: 7 - Won so many headers against taller defenders, didn't get anything to work with beyond that
CAMPBELL: 8.5 MOTM - Such a threat even though he looked like he'd rather be lying down or dead than having to play again. Gave their defence no peace, made a mockery of the pacy RB they brought on to deal with him and stopped them being able to push up as the game went on. Superb
Referee: 4 - Idiot. I think he regretted giving us the free kick we scored from so he didn't give us another one like that despite Barnsley dragging a lot of our players down. Leaburn was dragged down by his neck on the edge of the box and we got nothing, but he gave some soft ones to them. Also allowed one of the most egregious examples of a fake keeper injury without even talking to their coaching staff to let them know it was taking the piss. They were screaming 'JACK SIT DOWN' for about a minute before he heard and the ref didn't even acknowledge it in the break.
Leaburn: n/a - Dangerous Anderson: n/a - Worked hard, stopped them getting a foothold to send crosses in from late Aneke: n/a - Goodbye sweet Chuks, hello large lumber man McIntyre: n/a - Won so many headers in the middle, really broke their play up Watson: n/a - Hi Tennai.
MANNION: 7 Did nothing wrong, but wasn't really troubled too much either, one very good save. RAMSAY: 7 JONES: 7.5 GILLESPHEY: 8 Good free kick that. SMALL: 6.5 COVENTRY: 7.5 BERRY: 5 lost the ball a few times and his shooting hasn't been up to scratch for weeks. How he is keeping his spot is beyond me at the moment. DOCHERTY: 7 EDWARDS: 6.5 GODDEN: 7 - Lonely job up top at times, must have been knackered. CAMPBELL: 7.5 some good crosses, but needs to run at the defence when he receives the ball in space instead of slowing his run every time. He has the pace and ability to beat players, maybe be a bit more direct in those scenarios.
