Surprising timing, which makes you think changes are afoot with the ownership situation.
I had no preconceptions about him as I never watched the Sunderland show, but thought he did a pretty good job when you compare with all the CEOs we've had down the years (other than Varney). And he often watched U21 matches, so did seem quite dedicated to the club.
For me, the clearest indicator he was pushed rather than jumped, is in that statement.
Methven said: "It has been an immense honour to serve this wonderful club. This time last year, when things were not progressing fast enough for all our liking, I agreed to move to south-east London and put my shoulder to the wheel, though it had never been my intention to take an executive role."
If he has jumped, the move to South East London has turned out to be a disaster. Unless he's already signed up to be involved with Millwall or (at a pinch) Gillingham...
Good job he only has a tent to pack up and not a house to sell.
Ok, so please don't shoot me.... I was in London two weeks ago and had a meeting with a very prominent sports producer who I have worked with on a few sports documentaries over the years. We got onto the subject of Charlton and he told me that just before Christmas some "BIG AMERICANS" tried to buy Charlton but were rejected by the current owners.
I know nothing more than that except the people that wanted to buy us were seriously, seriously wealthy. I mean - define that versus our billionaire owners now (I have no idea)?! They didn't say anymore than that to me. So I know nothing more.
In my opinion, CM has gone because the promises of reducing costs and getting the team promoted by just doing things better hasn't worked out. My god, it's a whole lot better than under TS, but could it have got worse (I mean, it nearly got worse last year under CM et al and Appleton)... but whilst I didn't think and don't think he's qualified to run this club, I'll say he's done better than TS. However, we are still losing an absolute fortune and so by his own standards he set, he failed to reduce the losses whilst getting us promoted at the same time.
So, it was better than it was, but a club like Charlton should be doing better than it was - any person/group with any abilities should do better with Charlton than TS, his missus and his son did!
Never really had a huge issue with him. Last Tuesday I met a Preston fan who said he'd spoken to Methven in the fan zone before the game because he recognised him from the Sunderland doc and his podcast. Said he spoke well (as you'd expect) and seemed quite happy he'd been able to speak to the CEO before the game. I was fairly impressed that Methven was out there chatting to all comers on a pretty miserable Tuesday night. Unless we find out down the line he stole all our gold or something I think he'll go down as one of our more sensible CEOs in recent years.

Never watched an episode of the Sunderland thing so had no preconceived ideas about Charlie Boy. He didn’t impress me with the Mickey Apples appointment (still can’t believe it actually happened) but he’s kind of won me back with Boyo Jones. So farewell old friend, all the best now.
Please don’t let there be another fecking takeover 🙏🏻🙄😫🫣

That's very interesting but if Charlie has been booted because the current owners are annoyed that they can't make money quickly off this venture like he said then why would they reject a buy-out offer from some very wealthy buyers? Feels like that would have been a good out rather than just getting rid of the CEO.
Appears to have done a very good job for us. Has increased revenues, created a new fan experience which seems to be going down well, is willing to communicate with all fans openly and has not interfered with Nathan’s work. Whatever is behind the move, the club will have to recruit very carefully. We are now on an upward trajectory, we should not slipping back…
I read CM’s statement a few times. As a CEO myself you sometimes say more in what you do not say or acknowledge than what you say… I don’t know the dynamics behind what is implied mind.
It's wishful thinking I know but shouldn't the club be deep into pre-negotiations with players for next season wherever we may be ? Not having a CEO is likely to be unhelpful.
No that was not his job .. he had nothing to do with football side

I believe there are a lot of big Americans.

I personally thank him for what he's done for the club in his time. We are undoubtedly in a better place than we were
Jeff Bezos wants to buy us.
I hope so - we've got a game tomorrow!
Charlie Boy is leaving to run things in Jamaica.
He can wear his strawberry chinos & espadrilles all he wants.
Straight from Crawley on X
