One of my favourite players. As a young lad that 63/64 season was a standout season for me.
    RIP Mike.

A proper winger who scored his fair share of goals. A crowd pleaser and a crowd favourite with a good turn of pace. With him on the right, and Lennie Glover on the left, we were a real attacking threat, particularly when kicking towards the Covered End. Happy days!
Deepest condolences to his family and friends.

  • RIP Mike. Remember him well from when I first started going. He'd have been in his second spell then. So many from that era are sadly now leaving us.

1963 memories .. Kenning on the right wing, Glover on the left wing. Mike was a hard running, quick winger with a powerful shot, he was quite  regular scorer. During his 2nd spell I was abroad a lot or working weekends, so not many memories from that era Died aged 84 .. R I P Mike

RIP Mike. He was a great penalty taker and it was said that during training he would tell Charlie Wright which side he was putting the ball and Charlie still couldn't stop it. He just hit it so hard.

Like many of other poster's, I believe Mike Kenning played in my first game at the Valley. The passing of time and players.
    RIP Mike

I too am old enough to remember his arrival. My Dad thought he was a good signing and he was right. Will have to get the "Valiant 500" book down from the shelf and pay respects properly.

    RIP Mike

An exciting and talented player, along with Lennie  Glover you always felt that that they could get you a goal. When I started going down to the Valley with the lads from Springfield Grove, all of 11/12 years of age it set the seeds of hope. Before that I went with my late father, so perhaps it was more magical than in reality. Always be a favourite to me , RIP Mike  you made my world a better place!

Lovely player, very quick, with a rocket of a shot, remember how players used to try and set him up about 20-25 yards out so he could have  a dig.
Thanks for the memory  Mike ,another CAFC legend gone.

I didn't see his first stint at Charlton but loved him when he returned, scored two crackers in the 4-1 win at loftus road and I remember him scoring another couple of belters in a 2-2 home draw with Millwall in 1969, the covered end being a sea of fighting. He moved out to South Africa but still kept in touch with Lennie Glover. A great player, RIP Mike.

Very good signing for us from I believe, Shrewsbury. Had a ferocious shot on him. Part as been mentioned, of a great forward line including Eddie Firmani and Lennie Glover. What fun and excitement they provided us in the day. RIP Mike and thanks for the memories.

Came from Shrewsbury and bought by Frank Hill (I think). I saw him score 2 goals in his very first game at what is now the away end. We knew we had a winner.
Great, great player. Journey over pal. RIP.
