inguinal hernia op

edited March 24 in Not Sports Related
Had one of these done 9 days ago via the keyhole method. Recovery has been up and down so far, first few days was mainly suffering from the swelling and bloating, then days 6-now I've had minor swelling in the hernia area and a bad pulling sensation around the groin, which is slowly improving although has got my worrying.

Just wondering what the recovery was like for others who have had it ? Really don't want to start googling things and spiral !

I've had both sides patched up with the webbing stuff in separate ops several years ago. Pulling sensation sounds familiar from memory, but if you're worried about rejection or other side effects not listed, get  medical advice.

Years on and no long lasting effects for me, but I didn't run until advised I could, and I can't honestly remember how long that was. Six weeks maybe? Did feel uncomfortable for a while tbh, like a tightness.
  • I had the same op a couple of years ago. From memory I had a few days of discomfort post op around the area of the operation, but no bloating. I guess the pulling sensation could just be the stitches.

I wouldn't Google, just ask to get it checked out if you are concerned.
  • Had double inguinal in 2019...in and out in a day at Blackheath Hospital...woke up in pain from the op in the recovery room...more morphine...rest of the day flew by I tell thee.....getting out of the hospital was a bit of an effort as I had to walk out...but it was like I'd had 15 pints of DIPA...remember it feeling very 'strange' for a few days after...and was very strict on the 'don't do any lifting of any kind, not even a kettle' (which my wife wasn't so keen on...)...but no lasting issues... Hope all is well....back to the consultant/Dr if not!

Yeah im gonna give it a few more days and then contact the hospital, just dont want to be that guy who keeps ringing them up. Signed off for 6 weeks so that hasnt changed much.

Think the bloating was a mixture of swelling and air from where they inflate the stomach, soon went after a few days of laxatives lol.

The aftercare was slightly confusing... dont exercise but walk etc, tbh most of the doctors seemed more interested in my medical cannabis use and access than giving specific details on what I can and cant do. The fentanyl /opiates hang over was something else though !
  • I've had both sides done over the last 15 years, last one being 10 years ago.

Recovery was ok, try not to sneeze for a few days!!!

What with the stitches and laxatives, it's literally the last thing I need to do right now 😆
  • I sneezed after about 6 days and popped the scar open about an inch

Ffs ! Not ideal at all. All my cuts are healing great, just panicking about the new swelling which I'm guessing can take time to appear. Causing me all sorts of worries, started a new job 2 weeks before the op and am on my probation period. Really worried that if I have to be opened up again or dont heal well il be getting the tin tack, the anxiety from that is making me hyper aware i think.

  • I had it done 2 years ago. I do recall for the first 2 weeks getting some really sharp shooting pains on certain movements down groin/ lower abdomen and kept me up at night if I moved awkwardly… but think it was just nerve pain from the surgery, quickly subsided and was back playing 11 aside football 4 weeks after the op I think…

you'll be fine mate, I just ignored it and it eventually healed over. Work should be totally understanding over things like this - hope the recovery goes well

Listen to your body. If it doesn’t feel right, DO be that guy.
