MATCH THREAD : Charlton Athletic V Huddersfield Town : Saturday 29th March 2025 : KO 12:30

Hi everyone...
So, we are back home today, and "welcome" Huddersfield Town onto the hallowed turf of THE VALLEY, for a rather important match as we reach the thin end of a topsy turvy season, now I would like to say that we will get another three points added to our total today, because I refuse to even think of any other result, I look back to Peterborough, and class that as a blip, a speed bump put in our way, a pothole on the road to the  playoffs but nothing we can't put right today.
Only fly in the ointment I suppose today, is the early kick off and Bloody Sky getting involved, but it would be good to get the points sorted and then watch as the rest unfolds later.

Charlton and Huddersfield have locked horns on 93 previous occasions with the Addicks winning 37, the Terriers 37 and the remaining 19 encounters resulting in draws, Huddersfield ran out 2-1 victors against the 10-man Addicks in the reverse fixture at the John Smith’s Stadium in November 2024, so another reason, as if there ain't enough already, to get the victory today.

Regarding team selection, it don't sound too good for either Leaburn or Kanu, which is terrible, but Josh sounds a little bit more positive with Nathan saying "Josh is a lot closer than he was a week ago. He’s had some training and then we’ll assess and see how he is.", so maybe the bench which would be encouraging...

Anyway, here we go everybody...

Team news..

Josh Edwards returns to the starting XI for this afternoon’s Sky Bet League one fixture against Huddersfield Town.

The defender, who replaces Tennai Watson, has missed the last two games after picking up a groin injury in the Addicks' win at Crawley Town.

There is also a place on the bench for Jamaica international Kaheim Dixon.

Kayne Ramsay, Lloyd Jones and Macaulay Gillesphey will once again start in a back three in front of Will Mannion.

Thierry Small and Edwards are likely to operate as wing-backs with Luke Berry, Conor Coventry and skipper Greg Docherty working in a midfield three.

Matty Godden once again partners Tyreece Campbell in attack.

Watson and Dixon are joined on the bench by Dean Bouzanis, Tom McIntyre, Karoy Anderson, Alex Gilbert and Chuks Aneke.

Charlton: Mannion; Ramsay, Jones, Gillesphey; Small, Berry, Coventry, Docherty (c), Edwards; Godden, Campbell

Subs: Bouzanis, McIntyre, Watson, Anderson, Gilbert, Dixon, Aneke

  • Didn't someone put up a stat a couple of weeks ago that there was just us, Brum and maybe one other that hint been "doubled" this season?

For that reason alone we must not lose to keep our run going!
  • Kaheim is on the bench!
  • Pleased Dixon is there
  • Eddie's back!

That's it, three points are ours.

Thanks for coming everyone, see you next week.
  • No Ladapo for Hudds so no ex CAFC curse on offer there
  • Josh is back, great news...

  • Good starting X11. Would have preferred Gilbert over Berry if being picky

    Stockport is the other.
  • What a weak bench. No Kanu, Ahadme, Leaburn, even may I say, Hylton. Not a good time of the season to be so bereft of striking options. Time for Aneke to show he isn't a busted flush.
  • Dixon ahead of Ahadme. Unless he's injured, that's an interesting call, but surely he's a better Campbell replacement off the bench than anyone else in the squad.
  • Great to have Edwards back and a nicely balanced bench, other than no natural replacement for Godden if he gets injured and goes off early. Can’t play Chuks for more than half an hour and neither TC or Dixon can play that hold up role.
  • Phew no Dion Charles for them... Am safe from @killerandflash
  • Ahadme must be truly poor to not get on this bench.
  • Can see Dixon coming on late and getting the winner...👌
  • Glad Dixon is on the bench but our striking options are very limited.

    Wont say any more...🙊

Good to see Dixon, possibly some game management regarding Aneke and Ahadme, lose Chuks we know it's long term and it could happen any time, if Ahadme gets injured then we would have to rely on Chuks and we all know there are no guarantees there.
  • I wonder why Mitchell is out of favour, doesn’t even make the bench these days?

    Anyone know?

I look at the bench and think 'that's the strongest bench i've seen for a while'
