MATCH THREAD : Mansfield Town V Charlton Athletic : Tuesday 1st April 2025 : KO 19:45

Good evening one and all...
Tonight we travel up to Nottinghamshire for an encounter with Mansfield Town at The One Call Stadium, Mansfield currently occupy 14th spot and sit  comfortably in a relative safe mid table position after winning their last two matches, including a 2-1 result at home to Barnsley, so will be another tricky game I am sure, Nigel Clough will no doubt want to try and trip us up tonight, but we should be too strong for that, just don't take our foot off the pedal, and treat them exactly the same as we treated Huddersfield.
We are still without Ashley Maynard-Brewer, Miles Leaburn, and Daniel Kanu for tonight's trip, Charlton and Mansfield have met on just six previous occasions, with the Addicks winning three and the remaining three meetings resulting in draws, we shared a goalless draw in the reverse fixture at The Valley back in December 2024, so a rather limited playing history, and with Mansfield still chasing their first victory, but not tonight I feel, and hope...🤞
We  will be wearing our grey third kit in Nottinghamshire.

Here we go...
Team news...

Tom McIntyre will make his first start for the Addicks in tonight's game against Mansfield Town (KO 7.45pm BST).

The defender replaces Lloyd Jones, who misses the match with a minor calf injury, as Nathan Jones makes one change to the side that beat Huddersfield Town 4-0 at The Valley on Saturday.

McIntyre will start in a back three alongside Kayne Ramsay and Macaulay Gillesphey in front of Will Mannion.

Thierry Small and Josh Edwards will operate as wing-backs with Conor Coventry, Luke Berry and skipper Greg Docherty once again making up a midfield three.

Saturday’s goalscorers Matty Godden and Tyreece Campbell make up the Addicks’ front two.

Dean Bouzanis, Alex Mitchell, Tennai Watson, Karoy Anderson, Alex Gilbert, Kaheim Dixon and Chuks Aneke make up the substitutes bench.

Charlton: Mannion; Ramsay, McIntyre, Gillesphey; Small, Coventry, Berry, Docherty (c), Edwards; Godden, Campbell

Subs: Bouzanis, Mitchell, Watson, Anderson, Gilbert, Dixon, Aneke.

  • A must win to keep the pressure on those above us which I think we will. 3-0 and 3 big points
  • Lloyd Jones has a “minor calf injury”

No Jones is a bit of a worry... Although McIntyre has looked solid whenever he's appeared
  • We're doomed
  • Hopefully just giving jones a rest

  • Uh oh. Our record without Lloyd Jones is NOT good.

Lloyd Jones saw your post and stayed at home. They're only pretending he has an injury to save embarrassment.

Didnt realise he was a farmer away from Football...
Bloody hell FA, your on form tonight!!
  • A bit of a blow to Alex Mitchell that McIntyre is ahead of him, even in the central CB position.

  • Edwards out at Peterboro, we lose 3-0. Jones out...
  • Hmmm.....not great news. Jones has been the rock in the heart of the defence. Not seen much (if anything) of Macintyre and I would prefer Mitchell there of I'm honest.

Just have to score more than they do. Simples.

I'm really surprised by that. I've been really impressed with McIntyre but he's always come on in midfield and he seems like an obvious swap for Gillesphey or Coventry but you'd imagine Mitchell is the big dominant CB in place of Jones. That said one of the things that has impressed me most with McIntyre is the sheer number of headers he's won in midfield and how intelligent he's looked on the ball, and those are the two things that Jones does best for us

    This
  • Huge blow losing Jones. Thankfully Gillesphey has improved massively, so not quite as concerned  as I would have been. I still think we will struggle without him and can't see us keeping a clean sheet. I would take a draw. Hope he is fit for Saturday.
  • Also - in other good omen news - I see we’ve never lost to Mansfield…
  • The great thing about the left footed McIntyre playing as the middle CB in a back three is it’ll blow the minds of those who are convinced we play 4-2-3-1 with Ramsay at RB and Small RW.
  • Uh oh. Our record without Lloyd Jones is NOT good.
Didnt take long for the negative naysayers to show up did it Herminator!!
Not the one I was expecting first up either!
