How many times did that Sky commentator say they had a goal disallowed 😂. It wasn’t allowed because it never went in!
On that basis, the Godden "goal" in the second half that seemed to go through the net, was disallowed as well
I was very surprised that the ref didn't have the net checked - Sunday park game perhaps, but that should not happen in a professional game.
THE GOAL/S WERE NEVER GIVEN. Neither went in the goal, both were outside. We had an excellent view from right behind that side of the goal.
I KNOW THEY WERE NOT GIVEN!
That's not my point - clearly the side netting was compromised. Why do you think linos check the nets before the game? The integrity of the netting should have been checked and repaired.
The ball never passed through the net. It wasn't compromised, that's my point, it went outside the goal, hit the upright(not the goal post) and manion collected it from behind the goal.
The one in the second half from Godden seemed to go through the net
I think we can forget automatics but we can focus on coming third just like under Bowyer The main thing is to be the in-form team.
Wrexham dropping points. Wycombe dropping points.
Charlton still winning ... and still have to play the Ws (albeit away from home).
Automatics anything but forgotten as far as I'm concerned.
Don't settle for play-offs, don't coast ... run through the tape and you never know who you may pip on the line.
We've been relegated in the final minute of the season, we've moved up the play-off positions in the final minute of the season, and we've been promoted in the final minute of the season (play off finals) ... this one's not over yet!
Excellent post. That last bit should be the teams' mantra from now on. Play until the final whistle in every match.
Very good away performance considering we were without arguably our most important player through injury.
I thought McIntyre did really well, especially considering how few minutes he’s played. Mansfield knocked the ball about quite well, but were always looking for free kicks and hassling the ref (who was one of the best we’ve seen this season.) Their Vickers was always a threat. Worth keeping tabs on him I’d say. Tupac gets better and better. On this trajectory, we might lose him even if we do get promoted. Another great finish from him - set up by Aneke who almost scored the goal of the season. Great technique when striking the ball.
Nathan Jones has done a sensational job turning it round from the disappointing start to the season and some of the awful results we had along the way, turning us into the seriously competitive and physically robust side that we can actually be proud if.
Having sat through the sterile Arsenal v Chelsea at the Emirates, and the sometimes comically bad Brighton v Forest cup tie on TV, I genuinely think some of our recent games have been way more entertaining.
Two points gained over Wrexham and Wycombe. Long may it continue.
A great battling performance. Mansfield pressed us & didn’t allow us to play. I thought some of their challenges were over robust to say the least. Ref wasn’t the worst we’ve had but a couple of ‘challenges’ on both Anderson & Campbell were more like assaults & nothing given ! I always felt comfortable that we would get the win even when they had a little spell of putting us under pressure. We seem to find a way in most games now. In Jones we trust ! You can bet he hasn’t given up automatic promotion & he won’t let these players either . The pressure will be on both Wycombe & Wrexham to the last. As somebody once said, it’s squeaky bum time for them & that can create some funny old results !
They completely deserved to lose. They spent more time diving than playing, especially their No. 8 who, in my opinion, was seriously dodgy, and his hair was stuck in the 70s.
Agree about the diving. Mansfield players went to ground way too easily several times. If that's what you tell them to do Clough, don't think your dad would be impressed. Nigel by name...
How many times did that Sky commentator say they had a goal disallowed 😂. It wasn’t allowed because it never went in!
I'm being serious now......but the EFL need to have a look at Mansfield's nets. Twice tonight the ball appeared in the back of the net when it clearly went past the post. Their "disallowed" goal and Godden's shot.
Otherwise next time could have serious consequences.
Superb result. Great atmosphere. Out of interest do readings results get removed if they don't find a buyer? I don't wish that on any club but could it benefit us?
Yes is my understanding because they already have banned the chairman and will not let the club carry on with him in charge, the EFL would prefer a points deduction but if the rules say the club has an owner who is declared not fit and proper, they can't continue. Lets hope they do find a buyer as we have been there and I don't want any other club to suffer the way we have, also, I'd rather Charlton overhaul Wycombe and Wrexham by winning games not by Reading being booted out.
Nah, sod that.
West Ham cheated be playing Tevez & Mascereno and got a slap on the wrist instead of a points deduction.
Rules are rules. I think the deadline is the end of this week. If Reading are not sold by the weekend then they should be kicked out.
But sadly the EFL are pussies & wont do anything until the end of the regular season.

TBF, I didn't pay attention after Godden's shot went wide. @golfaddick the Mansfield 'disallowed' goal absolutely didn't go through the net.

Agreed. Palace fell foul of something similar in 2009 at Ashton Gate (actually it was the very opposite as their goal wasn't given but it is funny);
Freddie Sears v Bristol City, 15th August 2009
When Freddie Sears found the back of the net past Bristol City ‘keeper Dean Gerken, he naturally wheeled away to join his teammates celebrating Palace’s opening goal of a controversial summer afternoon, oblivious to the ball which sailed back over his head towards the penalty spot.
It wasn’t until he’d turned around to see referee Rob Shoebridge deliberating with his linesman that Sears realised something wasn’t quite right.
His goal, which followed a considerable punt upfield from Julian Speroni, cannoned in and out of the net in the flash of an eye and seemed to evade Shoebridge, who awarded a goal kick instead.
Despite enjoying the better of the two teams' performance, Palace would go on to lose the clash 1-0 as Nicky Maynard stole a point from the Eagles in the 90th minute.

I think they will be Golfie, as you rightly say the rules are there and that's what the EFL has to be guided by. An unnamed party has been given exclusivity on a purchase but the stumbling block is the assets.Yongge, the chairman has been given until the fourth of April but he wants paying for the facilities and probably more.
There is no doubt that the Mansfield shot hit the stanchion behind the goal and cannoned on to the back of the net. Mannion walked around the posts to collect the ball. Never between the posts despite what the commentator said six times !
Now having just watched the highlights I can see what Bob Munro means and this time the ball does hit the side of the net and then appears to be over the line in the goal. Quite bizarre.

I seem to recall a goal Chelsea scored at Stamford Bridge - probably 1980s. The shot went just past the right hand post on the outside, hit the stanchion at the back and came straight back out. Ref gave the goal! I think that may have been one of the reasons stanchionless (is that a word even?) nets came in.

My mistake then. I didn't see their shot but Godden's looked like it settled inside the net. I must have been seeing things.
Pretty certain Godden's shot ended with the ball just behind the keeper on or very near to the goaline. It did not appear to be outside of the frame of the goal.
Their shot appeared to nestle at the back of the net but said to my son it looked like it could be on the outside of the net.
In any case I've not seen it happen TWICE in a match before....and so much so the commentator thinks it was in.

Excellent battling away victory. Mansfield pressed with energy. They worked hard on stopping Tyreece Campbell on the left and Small on the right. They used momentum and pressed forward to get an equaliser.
Lloyd Jones is a great player and when not playing is a miss. Macintyre did well especially since limited game time but defence was not so strong without Lloyd Jones.
Good times find a way to win. Perfect timed subs and excellently time switch. Really enjoyed that brilliant Tyreece Campbell goal. Pleased for the away support to be able to enjoy that moment. Keep on working on hard as a team, taking each game at a time and winning and we have a great shot at going up.

Just checked and I got the post wrong - it was the left hand post. Alan Hudson for Chelsea - in the 70s!

This is Clive Allen's; (from the Palace website; Coventry played on and the ref then consulted with his linesman and ruled it out. VAR would stop this type of thing now of course in the prem at least...
Clive Allen v Coventry City, 6th September 1980
Clive Allen’s ‘goal’ against Coventry City was even more dramatic than Sears’ and, in the context of the season, even more damaging too.
Playing in a run of poor form, Palace had lost three out of their four opening matches when they travelled to Coventry for a clash with the Sky Blues in 1980.
When Jerry Murphy was felled on the edge of Coventry’s box, eventual top scorer Allen stepped up to rifle the effort at goal, an effort which would find the back of the net in fine fashion.
Ricocheting off the stanchion, Allen’s attempt sent the Palace players into that trademark of vintage celebrations - thrusting arms into the air and pausing on tip-toes.
But even that wasn’t enough to convince the referee and his linesman who both agreed the effort had struck the post and bounced back out.
“I feel disgusted about that decision today,” said manager Terry Venables, “because we went one-up and made a couple of individual mistakes and we’d been playing very well. We got the goal to get back into the game and he disallows it. There’s not even a doubt in my mind that that went in and hit the iron stanchion at the back.”
By the final whistle, Coventry had won the game 3-1 and Palace tumbled through a season that saw them relegated from the First Division into the second tier of English football, where they would languish for eight consecutive seasons.
It was a campaign that started with Vince Hilaire’s dismissal for pushing a referee and continued with loss after loss, making Allen’s misfortune another appropriate bump on a tough and damaging road.
Battled hard for that win in a game we probably would have lost over the last few years. Thought McIntyre slotted in seamlessly and played really well.
As I said during the 1st half......chalk & cheese compared to last Saturday. But a win is a win is a win to paraphrase Richard Burton.
The positives......
Great goal by TC. Really took it well & apart from our first goal about our only other shot on target.
No real negatives as such but just a game we had to grind out. Would definitely have lost it last season...and the season before that...and probably the one before that as well !
Godden's goal was the type of gift we used to give teams. Wasn't it against Burton a couple of years ago when we gave 2 like that ? What goes around comes around. Perhaps its finally our turn to get given gifts in front of goal.
On to Saturday & Lincoln at home. Nothing certain in football & we might have to grind out another win. Hopefully being at home might makes us better.
6 more games. Lets try for 2nd. If we fail at least we can secure 3rd. 4th at the very worst.

So that disallowed goal helped relegate Palace?
They've written it to suggest it did but this was a match in September, and sounds like they never got going until relegated.

Yep, no reason why it shouldn’t have sailed over the keepers head to seal a 3-1 win.
