And no crime committed by Toby Carvery!!!  :(
Have you ever eaten in Toby Carvery!!...🙄
Probably not for the last 20 years, if at all.  What has that got to do with it?

BTW I've never hung out with the guys who chopped down the Sycamore Gap!

If you had ever eaten at Toby's then you might have an idea, it was an attempt, (obviously not a very good one) at an ironic statement...food is pretty naff, and usually cold imo...

Oh and regarding Sycamore Gap...neither have I 🤷‍♂️

Always surprised that Toby Carvery is still in business, food is cheap but not good and often cold. How more diners do not get food poisoning is beyond me and i agree although the food may not technically be contravening any laws, that's probably a fault in the legal system rather than as a direct result of the offering.

Pair guilty of felling world famous Sycamore Gap tree.
Daniel Graham, 39, and Adam Carruthers, 32, both from Cumbria, were each convicted of two counts of criminal damage unanimously by jurors at Newcastle Crown Court.

They won’t - I think the maximum penalty is six months.

It will be sad if this is the case. They should get more just for wasting everyone's time trying to deny it was them. I think I read that there was a video on one of their phones of them doing it.

She said now he had been convicted of a "serious offence" for which he could receive a "lengthy" prison term, there was a "substantial" risk he would fail to turn up for his sentencing hearing.

Just read this on the BBC News website. Hopefully they will get a longer sentence

For a case like the Sycamore Gap tree felling - charged as criminal damage under UK law and tried in the Crown Court - the Sentencing Council provides specific guidelines based on several factors.
    Relevant Offence:
    Criminal Damage (value exceeding £5,000)
Maximum sentence in the Crown Court: 10 years’ imprisonment
    Sentencing Guidelines Overview (Crown Court)
    1. Assessing Culpability & Harm
Sentencing is based on two key factors:
Culpability: How intentional or reckless the offender was.
    - High culpability includes premeditation, use of tools, or targeting symbolic property.
    - Harm: The impact of the offence, including:
Financial loss (e.g., £622,000+ for the tree)
    - Cultural/historic value (e.g., Sycamore Gap's symbolic significance)
    - Wider emotional/public impact
    This case likely falls into:
    - High culpability (planned, deliberate)
    - High harm (very high value, national cultural loss)
    2. Starting Point & Sentencing Ranges
For high culpability and high harm, the Crown Court sentencing range is generally:
    Starting Point: 18 months’ custody
Range: 6 months to 4 years’ custody
    Aggravating Factors (could increase sentence):
Targeting a protected or heritage site
    Lack of remorse
Concealment or dishonesty after the offence
Offence committed in group or with planning
    Mitigating Factors (could reduce sentence):
    Early guilty plea (if applicable)
    Genuine remorse
    Mental health or personal circumstances

I can't see how they can avoid a lengthy custodial sentence.

They are undoubtedly idiots and fuckwits. I don't know if they are "vile humans" - I would suggest our courts and prisons have many who on the scale of "vile" are ranking much higher.

The JSO idiot and fuckwit Hallam had his 5 year sentence reduced to 4 years - that seems like a reasonable length for for these two idiots as well.

Should reopen the Tower of London as a prison and chuck them in there.  ;)

Should make them pay the £622K as well, even if it makes them and their families homeless

I hope this punishment will see them turn over a new leaf.

And not branch out into further crime.

I expect their loved ones will pine for them while they are banged up.
Personally I think they should be burned at the stake until they are ash.

the fact that a tree is worth more than most houses in Northumberland is the real crime.

In all seriousness, mad that a 31 year left his partner at home with a week old baby to drive 30 miles in a storm in the middle of the night to cut down a massive tree for no reason beyond having the same sense of humour as 14 year old chavs smashing the glass on a bus stop.

I think there should be some sort of National Service set up for offenders, as opposed to sending them to prison.
There must be a way of getting these people to serve a useful purpose, when they are not a serious danger to the public.

My great uncle got 18 years and a charge of manslaughter for cutting down a tree.

It did drop an an unsuspecting courting couple though
