It would be stronger still with the full studio coverage. But as you inferred earlier once the other idiots among the EFL clubs took the Sky shilling we were stuck.

    Your point earlier about season tickets not covering the play-offs is not the zinger you think it is. ST holders still have a preferential chance to grab their seats for the play-off game at the Valley. If CTV viewers had been told that it's not covered but we will have the chance to pay £10 match pass, there would be no issue. We don't have that. A significant number of us have no legal and satisfactory way to watch the play-offs. 
    Just as I have no way to be able to  watch overseas games. 

    As I said I don’t like it but the clubs get certainty of payment and that is compelling when they lose money as a business. 
    If we fail to get promoted I suspect our combined TV and match day ticket sales will decline next year unless the owners throw money at the squad. Floating support will fall again in absence of success.  Yes we will have sold some season tickets of late but the feel good factor won’t last long.

    I know some regular season games have been blacked out in the US because they were shown locally, but yesterdays game was on CTV despite it also being on CBS/Paramount+.

    In my own case your assumptions are wrong. 

    I have subscribed to sky via now TV just for the last 2 months at £20 per month (offer price but not unique to me) which has given access to multiple Charlton games given the non 3pm kick offs. Far better value than the in house offering at this time of the season. 

    Non subscription / on demand means you can more easily pick and choose now.

    Well some games are, of course they are, because the EFL have the separate international  rights package which wíll cause me play off grief. And my usual get out card for those games is Viaplay, as my Scandi mate’s son lets me use his log in.

    Almost every week it happens. It doesn’t mean someone’s paid but potentially that they’ve hacked into the system. It will happen for every team in the EFL

    Funnily enough I was just sending you a PM about all of this. My guess is that the money would be hard to quantify, people will mainly pirate for PL games and CAFC games are a byproduct

    I realise you are joking of course but I’m correcting your original argument that the in house income won’t be impacted by Sky. It is. 

    To repeat id rather the deal didn’t exist but whilst the football pyramid is paying ridiculous salaries to players it won’t change until consumers reign in their TV spend. 

    Football has created its own monster and despite me thinking the bubble must burst it appears it won’t.

    Of course the revenue from Charlton TV is affected by Sky. That's why they cancelled the studio discussion. I expected worse, that they would throw in the towel completely. In fact Methven told us that the streaming revenue held up better than expected. The amount they get from Sky, and the amount they took in last year from streaming is almost identical around the £450k level. This season I think Methven said they still expect £250k from CTV. Which means they make more in total from "broadcast" thanks to Sky, but have pissed off some of their more loyal, er, customers.

    My issue is about how much Sky would lose if they allowed the private streaming to just carry on alongside them. Very little, I'd assert. And as for the international rights, what a joke. I have never for example met a single Czech football fan who said they'd watched a live English game from lower than FAPL level on TV. And at the same time how many Charlton fans are permanent resident in Prague. I know of one other. One. (He's an occasional Lifer). Yet because Nova Sport are, supposedly, going to show the play-off games, I can't watch CTV? It's ridiculous.

    I get your point but I am an example of where Sky would lose some income at times. 

    I would only buy Sky if we were on more than twice in a month. Otherwise I’d pay Charlton only. 

    I see why they restrict the individual club broadcasts even if the sums may be small but they rely on customer inertia to not cancel their subscription once signed up.

    I always thought the advantage of a CTV screening is that 'fans' wouldn't want to rip the club off. It is obvious that some do but surely most don't.

    Ok, thanks for offering me a plan B (or as it happens in my case, Plan C)

    It looks like it will work for me, but will not work for the vast majority of International Addicks. 

    - Without a VPN, NowTV detected that I am not in the right country for their services.

    - I switched on VPN to UK, and that satisfied NowTV.

    - however the next step is to set up an account for which a UK debit/credit card, with a link to a UK address, is required. Fortunately I have that. Most of the International Addicks in the WA group don't. NowTV operates in Germany, but Sky has its own separate channels there.

    - I've set up an account. A monthly membership will cost me £35. 

    - there remains a small danger, I suppose, that Sky may use its own geo-blocking on top of NowTVs, but probably not. I assume NowTV and Sky are business partners.

But the EFL geo-blocked me anyway!!!. Clearly the lazy fuckers just automatically geo-block all countries with a rights agreement, regardless of whether the rights holder actually shows the game. The twats at Pitch International should be prevailed upon to provide some service for their fee, and check round the rights holders to confirm whether or not they are broadcasting, so that the EFL only geo-block those countries. A side-benefit would be that if it were confirmed that the Czech broadcaster really will show the games, then I'd potentially sign up with them (depending on the cancellation terms). Isn't that the supposed purpose of the international deal?Actually since there is some time, I'll go after Pitch myself and ask them to do it. (and why not, when they evade).

    It looks like it will work for me, but will not work for the vast majority of International Addicks. 

    - Without a VPN, NowTV detected that I am not in the right country for their services.

    - I switched on VPN to UK, and that satisfied NowTV.

    - however the next step is to set up an account for which a UK debit/credit card, with a link to a UK address, is required. Fortunately I have that. Most of the International Addicks in the WA group don't. NowTV operates in Germany, but Sky has its own separate channels there.

    - I've set up an account. A monthly membership will cost me £35.

    I get it I do. But the clubs voted for it. 

    I’m gutted I can’t get 3pm fixtures in the UK too. The black out is now beyond its sell by date in reality. . 

    Clubs need to reduce match day prices as well in my opinion.

    That is the current big unknown. It will be on my list to find out. 

    It's just a hunch but I believe overall Gavin Carter will be sympathetic about this, so I'll prepare something in advance for the May 8 CAST meeting with him, so that he has a chance to look into it and give some clarity on the night.

    I suppose the truth is that Sky know club private streams are the inevitable  future and are just milking it while they can, and at the same time trying to suppress the success of the private streams. Well, they would. So the focus should be on the sales agency with its 15 year relationship with the EFL.

    In my own case your assumptions are wrong. 

    I have subscribed to sky via now TV just for the last 2 months at £20 per month (offer price but not unique to me) which has given access to multiple Charlton games given the non 3pm kick offs. Far better value than the in house offering at this time of the season. 

    Non subscription / on demand means you can more easily pick and choose now.

    I realise you are joking of course but I’m correcting your original argument that the in house income won’t be impacted by Sky. It is. 

    To repeat id rather the deal didn’t exist but whilst the football pyramid is paying ridiculous salaries to players it won’t change until consumers reign in their TV spend.

    ). Yet because Nova Sport are, supposedly, going to show the play-off games, I can't watch CTV? It's ridiculous.

    I’ve checked it out in France before. They have the rights but don’t show it becausethey probably never wanted the rights in the first place. I’ve asked about it and they can’t believe that anyone would want to watch 3rd division English football. It’s that absurdly simple.

    I’m going to have to dig out the TP link box I bought for the play offs 6 years ago, make a monthly subscription and then buy Now TV. I hope it still works - I gave it up thanks to the over maligned Thomas Sandgaard.

    So how many of this "us" you speak of are committed Charlton fans then in you estimation? That's what I'm interested in, not whether or not I'm up with all the latest ways to steal content you really ought to be paying for. Especially if its content from your own club where payment would go to the club.

    If you’re not to date on something perhaps it’s better to listen to those that are rather than getting it totally wrong and still giving someone a shitty reply? But I’d suggest anyone bother to tune into a Charlton game is a pretty committed fan. 

    FYI I pay for Charlton TV every year but having to dick around with VPNs and blocked (google) captcha bollocks just means it’s easier to watch via my tv box.

    I think the decision by the club to drop the CTV pre game build up was wrong and they should consider starting the broadcast again. I haven’t missed a match on CTV since Covid (apart from when I attend the games) I’m not surprised that the revenue has stayed similar and I’m sure it would increase with a decent production pre and post match. I also don’t believe the broadcast affects gates all it does is allow  fans that can’t get to games for various reasons the chance to support our club

    I always enjoyed the CTV build up too and don't like that it's gone, but I think CTV use the Sky coverage superimposed by the CTV commentary crew....... I'm not sure if CTV had to cut a deal alongside the EFL one to make this happen....... but I'm wondering whether there's some kind of contractual obligation which means CTV can't use live studio coverage (only Sky can be live)..... as what we get now is Terry/Greg/Brownie and 'old' video clips from the club website?

    The club made a loss last year of 13m, is it the best use of our scant resources to spend money on pre match broadcasts?
